I’ve just joined Plex recently and so far pretty impressed. Most of my items have matched well. Some of my items have not, and I was happy to manually search for these to find a match. I am dismayed to keep spotting that these same items need matching again a day or two later. I have not moved the location of the files, or changed them in any way. Can anyone explain why this is happening as I imagine understanding that is the starting point to preventing it happening again.
Similarly I have some items in my library which I have manually named. I have locked the name field afterwards, and yet I keep returning to find the files have reverted to what they were before - some plex skewed version of the files default names.
so the lock is orange? (Sorry for the possibly silly question but it automatically locks as soon as you edit the field and I ran into some folks who were then pressing the button unlocking it because they did not realize it did so automatically on field edit.)
You can also do a fix match but make you are using the Personal Media Movies agent in the search options. Let it search and it will likely use the file name. but after that if you edit it and fields have the orange lock it should stick.
Interesting suggestion. I’ve been using The Movie Database for my manual matches (which I’ve later found unmatched again). What does using Personal Media do differently? I just tried doing a match on two of my films using Personal Media, one it had a result with the wrong year, and another had the correct year so I selected it, but it didn’t pull up any new info like director, studio, description etc.
On another note, for unofficial film releases like home movies that don’t have a registry on any database to match with, plex sometimes shows these films with the correct year based on what was on the file or I’ve edited under “originally available” and at other times it doesn’t. Its annoying to see them showing under the right year at one point and then nothing has changed later, but they’re not showing anymore.
After some experimentation I seem to have fixed the problem. I’ve found names don’t revert to incorrect ones if they are changed after fixing the match.
Matching with personal media also allows unofficial releases to hold and display the correct year, as per their tags.
