I am adding files and when I scan the library the folder shows no files. I have had .MKV that didn’t work and converted to .MP4 scanned and still did not detect. I have used the naming convention in the documentation still no luck. This just started to happen, other files could be copied to the folders and be detected, even some movies. Seems TV Series are the main issue.
Second reason is the fact that Plex uses by default the episode ordering of TheMovieDB.org.
With some shows, it can significantly differ from what is listed on TheTVDB.com for the same show. You can select a default Episode Ordering for the whole library. You can override the default for each show as well.
In general, only refer to these two websites about tv shows in Plex. Wikipedia or the websites of tv stations etc. are not relevant for Plex.
Sometimes “artificial series” are not recognized. (these are collections of videos which weren’t initially aired on TV in a regular fashion)
For instance purists will not accept the original Looney Tunes, or their competition Silly Symphonies as true “TV shows”.
Although most of these can still be added, if you remember to add the TheTVDB database ID to the folder name, and also explicitly select the Episode Ordering from TheTVDB in Plex.
The proper syntax for adding the ID is also documented in the above linked article.
Also do avoid using “automatic library scan” if you download or extract files directly into the media folders which were added to Plex libraries.
I strongly recommend to use “staging folders” outside of Plex’s view to prepare your files.
Otherwise there is always the danger of Plex looking at and analysing partial files.
