I came across something tangentially related to this.
I have an older TV that doesn’t support HDR10+, but does support HDR10 and DV. It’s a TCL R615/R617. I have an encoded MKV that support HDR10+. the file won’t play on the TV on a Firestick 4k Max or the TV’s Roku Plex app. Audio works but screen is solid pink.
I figure it must be due to HDR10+ and the TV not supporting it. However, my understanding is that HDR10+ adds metadata to HDR10 and is backwards compatible. Therefore, the TV should play back the file as HDR10.
Perhaps it’s something wrong with the encoding of the file. Or perhaps Plex is doing something to prevent it? The only HDR format listed on the file is;
SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version 1, HDR10+ Profile B compatible
EDIT: perhaps it’s something specific to this file because. I have another HDR10+ encoded file that will playback fine as HDR10. Strange.
