Files with both HDR10+ & DoVi Profile 8.1 metadata show blank/black screen

@sixones Fixed. I use Dovi_scripts instead of DDVT and that fix my issue. So everything works as intended. Good job :ok_hand:

@sixones I’ve no idea why, but I realised I was getting no sound with DTS-MA on that build. I don’t have surround, so my firestick is set to PCM.

Reverting to the public release fixed it.

@sixones I recently upgraded Plex from v9.16.2.38798 to v10.0.0.4149 on my Sony A80CK w/GTV through the Google Play Store on the TV. After testing one of my DoVi p7 files that correctly played previously in DoVi, I found that it still fell back to plain jane HDR.

I was puzzled as I thought this new version included your changes to allow DoVi p7 files to play correctly (on displays that support it). I reread the changelog again, and found that I missed the What’s New entry…

  • [TV] Player: setting for forcing DoVi p7 playback.

I went back into settings and sure enough, that setting is now available. Silly me. I enabled the setting, went back to my DoVi p7 file that I know plays correctly, and voila! That file, as well as all my other DoVi p7 files (including those w/HDR10+ metadata) now play correctly in DoVi without falling back to HDR.

So huge thanks for all your (and others) hard work getting this all worked out. I’m a happy camper again!

No problem, we found too many devices that could play DoVi p7 without issues but for others it was problematic so we decided to add the setting and let everyone decide the support for themselves.

For me this does not work. With version 9.31 my files with DoVi and HDR10+ fallback played without any problems with DoVi. After updating to version 10 the TV says it is using HDR10+ but the contrast looks completely off (yellow tint and too dark) compared to what it was before. After enabling the setting to force DoVi p7 playback the TV still refuses to use DoVi and uses HDR10+ and the HDR is completely messed up (yellow tint and too dark). I was now forced to rollback to 9.31, in which everything works fine.

I came across something tangentially related to this.

I have an older TV that doesn’t support HDR10+, but does support HDR10 and DV. It’s a TCL R615/R617. I have an encoded MKV that support HDR10+. the file won’t play on the TV on a Firestick 4k Max or the TV’s Roku Plex app. Audio works but screen is solid pink.

I figure it must be due to HDR10+ and the TV not supporting it. However, my understanding is that HDR10+ adds metadata to HDR10 and is backwards compatible. Therefore, the TV should play back the file as HDR10.

Perhaps it’s something wrong with the encoding of the file. Or perhaps Plex is doing something to prevent it? The only HDR format listed on the file is;
SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version 1, HDR10+ Profile B compatible

EDIT: perhaps it’s something specific to this file because. I have another HDR10+ encoded file that will playback fine as HDR10. Strange.

The black screen, but audio plays problem is back!

I bought a new FireTV 4k Max 2nd this week, and on this new stick the black screen problem is back.

The old 4k Max is ok, but not the new version.

Can anybody confirm this?

i only have the old 4k Max and a LG OLED c8. As soon as the files has HDR10+ and DV8 i get a blackscreen. Also tried to switch between the layer7 settings, but nothing changed. I installed the newest available version via firetv store

EDIT: I just download the vesion Plex for Android 9.28.0.3132-beta because someone mentioned that the problems are gone with that version and i can confirm that. Now my files with HDR10+ and DV8 playing without any problems with DV on an LG OLED C8. Maybe you can compare it with the new version and fix it

Where did you find that? I cant find any betas for the Firestick

Sorry for the late reply. I found it here: Release Announcements - Android TV beta - #628 by PlexAndroidReleaser

So I got a new Firestick 4K Max Gen2 (2023) edition and no matter which version of Plex I install on it (Tried over 30 versions), whenever I play DV content with HDR10+ it always shows a Black screen with only the sound playing.
I ticked the DV 7 support in settings it then plays the video in hdr10 with sound.

The only way I can get DV to work is if I use Kodi with Plex.
So its not the firestick, but the Plex version which seems to need some additional or tweaked settings.

Can anyone assist with this, I much prefer using Plex than Kodi.

Is there an ETA for a fix on this?

As far as I’m aware this is supposed to be fixed…

Thanks. But unfortunately not according to my Firestick. I have latest version of Plex 10.5.0 something. DV Profile 7 switched on. Tried it with it off, same thing.

Black screen with sound. No HUD either.

I’m also facing similar issue with firestick 4k max. Blank screen when movie/tv show is resumed. If i start from the beginning it plays well.

Please fix this issue,

To fix problems with DV and DVR I have to install KODI, but modded to select DV or HDR. The modded version is here:

Any updates on this?

@BigWheel this is a major issue. Is the Plex team aware?

Official Kodi Plugin is broken for quite some time.

You need to use Plexmod4Kodi

Or better yet, PlexKodiConnecf: GitHub - croneter/PlexKodiConnect: Plex integration in Kodi done right
