Having an issue where 4K DoVi/HDR10 (HEVC Main 10) files are giving “An error occurred while attempting to play this video” when trying to play locally (direct play) with a Google Pixel 7 Pro and multiple LG C1/C2 tvs. Video files play fine on the same android phone when playing remotely (transcoding) over cellular data. Video files play fine locally (direct play) on shield tv, and windows computers (via Plex.tv, Plex app, and Plex HTPC). Issue only appears to happen with D O V I Profile 8 files with HDR10 and not D O V I Profile 7 files with HDR10. Issue seems to have started happening in the past few weeks. The same files that were working a few weeks ago are no longer working. If I’m doing something wrong, I’d love to know! More than happy to provide any other info as needed.
Not all of the issues in that thread relate to your exact problem but I’m almost sure some were having the same issue. It’s been a while since I read it but it might be worth a look
Thanks for the reply. Seems like a similar issue, although for me Plex simply refuses to play the videos. So I guess I’m adding Plex for Android on a Google Pixel 7 Pro and LG C2 tv’s to that issue.
Work around is to use a computer plugged into the tvs, have not found a workaround on Plex for Android. Even trying to force transcoding does not work. Unless I make it a remote stream by disconnecting from Wifi.
Error given on Android is: “an error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”
It’s weird that Plex as a server knows how to handle these files, but the players for certain devices don’t.
