Ideally, I don’t want to create a folder for each film that I have extras for because Windows sorts folders first, then files, so the whole lot won’t be in alphabetical order. Also, it would take a while to create the folders.
Is it possible to simply create an Extras folder, then have the movie title folders within that folder and the extras in those?
That way, I don’t have to mess with the films within my Films folder. I just add a single folder to the \Films folder called Extras, with additional folders within the Extras folder with the film names.
That’s a real shame because I’ll only have extras for 10% of my films, meaning in the \Films directory, there will be 10% folders A-Z then 90% film files A-Z. Oh well.
You really are advised to put each movie into a folder.
I resisted vehemently for years, then finally realized the folly of my ways - when a scan started taking longer, and longer, and longer…
Movies in folders that don’t change - are excluded from a scan… like Magic. It speeds things up in Epic fashion and is a lot easier on the equipment (storage).
is now helping me complete the process - for thousands of movies - and we’re ‘almost’ done.
I’ve been dealing with this too. Plex will ignore a folder (nested) “Extras” but it will use a folder (nested) " featurettes", which I hate but it works. I try not to argue with Plex because it always wins in the end.
As with all things Plex - when there are instructions Users are advised to employ them for maximum advantage:
Organized in Subdirectories
You can organize your local extras into specific subdirectories inside the main directory named for the movie. Extras will be detected and used if named and stored as follows:
