Initial rasplex support post!
So, I installed Rasplex on my Raspberry Pi and it booted up nicely, saw my Plex Media Server, and started to download thumbnails, and such. I was even able to connect to it using iOS Plex. But, I have several issues:
- When the RPi running Rasplex is plugged into my router, the entire network slows down to DOG SLOW. No idea why.
- The UI is excruciatingly slow.
- No videos actually seem to play.
Promising! But definitely a work in progress. Are any of these known issues with the alpha release?
Am I better off just installing RaspBMC for now, and installing the PlexBMC plugin manually or something?

The network issue is known, we even hav Elan looking at it.
As for the UI, the most recent build seems to dramatically improve it (I'll be releasing it tonight). There is also a more specific plan for making the UI run as fast as it does on desktop, but that'll take a few weeks.
As for no videos playing, what version are you running? This may be realted to you network issue.
As for raspbmc + plexbmc, I'd say that is kind of stone age... but it's your choice!
What type of router are you using? It'll help us debug your network issue.
Remember, this is in alpha and is a community driven project, so it'll take some time to fix all of the bugs. I personally use 0.1.17 for my everyday playback needs, and I don't find it lacking at all. There are a few features missing that would be nice, but we'll get there.
My Rasplex/RPi freezes after around 20 seconds. I have tried v1.19, 1.17 and 1.20. Same problem.
Before it freezes it is responsive to keyboard input. It connects to my router and to Plex server.
When it freezes it disconnects from the router
I do not think it is a HW problem between receiver and RPi because OpenElec and RaspBMC works.
RPi is connected to receiver with HDMI, and is on a wired network. I also tried to connect Rpi to TV, but same problem. I have restarted the router; same problem.
It has been suggested to me that I should look at the logfile (/storage/.plexht/temp.plexhometheater.log), but I don't know how to do this as the RPi disconnects from the network.
It has also been suggested to me that I should disable CSC (added hdmi_ignore_cec=1 in config.txt), but this did not help either.
Any suggestions on how to proceed on this?
thanks,
ole h.

What class SD card are you using?
Does it freeze even without network attached?

Does it freeze even without network attached?
SD Card: Transcend 16GB, class 10 (the same card that works with raspbmc and others, I only have one card at the moment)
Yes, it freezes even without the network attached.
Most of the time it freezes when the 'Pulse Eight CEC adapter'-message is in the bottom right corner. Sometimes it stays alive a little bit longer
EDIT: Found a 8GB, class 6 card; same problem
Dale, the network flooding problem started in version .17 I think (maybe it was .16). Before that I had no problems at all.
I'm using a standard AirPort Extreme router, latest firmware, and no special setttings. It happens both with WiFi and Ethernet.

Can you try 0.1.24? (sudo ./getrasplex.py -b)

Thanks for the prompt response! Good to hear that you're aware of both the network issues and the UI sluggishness. I'll give the new version a shot this weekend, if I get a chance. I am betting that the videos not playing is due to the network issue.
What version am I running? Not sure off the top of my head. I installed yesterday using the installer script from github.
I am using an Apple AirPort Extreme (brand new) that is in bridge mode to a Motorola SBG9600 cable modem / router combo that is provided by my internet service provider.
I definitely will keep in mind that this is a community driven project at alpha level. I'm a developer (open source!) myself, have been for many years, so I am aware of all the hard work that goes into such a thing.
Great work so far, looking forward to seeing the progress.
Im still having the problem watching 1080p movies only get sound no video.. I force transcode and then 1080p plays fine but i lose my surround sound dts only plays in stereo Im on the latest build
720 p plays perfect dts no problem

Sounds like a codec issue to me.
Can you connect a keyboard, press "i", and say what codec it is using?
Can you try 0.1.24? (sudo ./getrasplex.py - B)
What I have done:
Connected rasplex/RPi to another monitor (hdmi -> dvi cable).
Tried with 0.1.20 to see if problem was related to my TV or receiver, but no, same problem.
Used 0.1.24. It is "better". It stayed alive for a minute or two. But then freezes and disconnects from the router (as before).
Another thing is new. The freeze kills the installation. When I reboot it stops with this message:
*** Error in mount storage: mount_common: coukd not mount /dev/mmcblk0p2 ***
[ 20.230615] system halted
It is possible I have thesame network issue as other has reported. I moved some big files on the wireless at the same time i tested 0.1.24, and the speed was very slow.
New rasplex user. Tried .19 and just trying .24 this morning.
Admittedly my Sd card might be a little slow. But I can't get a video to play.
They're 1080i Recordings from NextPVR. I have the local lan transcoding set to 4mb (the same setting works on my iphone plex client) but I get no video.
Are there any client logs I could supply to help diagnose the problem?
Did you purchase the MPEG2 codec for your PI?New rasplex user. Tried .19 and just trying .24 this morning.

The file /storage/.plexht/temp/plexhometheater.log
Try running 'pastebinit' on that file, and posting the link here

512MB or 256 MB pi?
512MB or 256 MB pi?
512. This is what i ordered: Raspberry Pi Model B Rev 2
I've found that after a period of idle time, the iOS Plex remote no longer works and the only way to fix it is to reboot the RPi. Has anyone else experienced this behaviour? I'm running the latest release (.24)
Did you purchase the MPEG2 codec for your PI?
We don't do mpeg2 here. It's all h.264/ And I would have thought that plex would transcode it to h.264 for the pi...
Currently testing 0.1.24 I still have the network issue, will test different network setups and post my findings.
Generally though, .24 seems much quicker, at the start it was a bit sluggish, but it was first run so it would have been caching, once that was complete I found it was a great improvement over .19 Gui response is a lot quicker, posters seem to load faster too, videos loaded faster, just generally a bit more snappy.
