I've brought this up in a few other places, and some suggested I bring it here. I have always loved using the Actor filters on Plex Movies; it's a great way to figure out what you want to watch, and it keeps everything incredibly organized. If I want to watch a Will Ferrell movie, I just enter his name into the filter and see everything he was in.
My request is that I would like to see that same functionality brought to the Television section. Currently, we can only sort by the show name and release date. If the television filters and movie filters were merged, we could also see all the appearances Movie actors might have made in our television shows. It would be an awesome way to search, and would simplify things by a thousand.
I’d love to see this feature as well and have mentioned it a few other times in these forums. To me, it is a huge, glaring deficit in a program that I love in all other aspects. Other programs such as Emby have this feature, so I’m not sure what holds Plex back. I’m quite surprised that many other people haven’t requested this feature. I suppose it shows the wide range of users and what they primarily use Plex for (music, home videos, tv, movies, etc.). I do hope they add this in the future.
Is this a recent addition? Also, what platform are you using? I’m using Plex Media Server for OSX and do not have the ability to filter for actor in the TV library. On Plex for TVoS, it does seem to work but is limited to the top 6 actors (from TVDB?) and one can’t list both movies and tv shows for an actor - only tv when in the tv section and movies in the movie section. But still its a start. If it could be broadened to the entire list (as is done for movies) and provide the ability to show both movies and tv together for a particular actor, that would be great. Emby does this and combines the cast list from TVDB with the guest appearances per episode from TheMovieDB. That or allow us to edit and add cast members ourselves.
I have PMS for Linux. I only added my two TV shows to Plex a few months ago out of curiosity, so I can’t say how long it’s been this way. I suppose it could be something that’s not there on OSX.
