Find what files did not get imported to database?

Server Version#: Latest

I found a hard drive from way back in my college days before Plex existed. There are hundreds and hundreds of files not named in a proper format. On a chance I told the media server to scan it, and it did pretty well finding a bunch and adding them to the catalog properly.

Is there a way to find out what files it did not scan? I know Plex found a bunch of AVI and MKV files but couldn’t match the name to anything. Is that a list I can access somewhere?

There’s a view in Plex for unmatched items … if Plex detected the file in the first place.

(WebTools-NG (Level 3 Export) can also identify items that Plex added to the the Library but couldn’t match.)

I’m not sure if there’s still a good way to identify files that Plex hasn’t added at all. That used to be possible with ExportTools. @dane22 @trumpy81

If your media is named and structured inconsistently … the ideal solution might be to name it correctly.

Something like FileBot (or Radarr & Sonarr) can be useful. It’s good at filename parsing and interactively renaming things to match the Plex standard.

I usually take the approach of adding media after I’ve cleaned up the naming, instead of dumping it all in and looking for problems.

No such thing as Level 3

You need to use custom levels, see:

When said, the old WebTools.bundle used to do this, but sadly broken with newer versions of PMS :frowning:
