Fire Stick 4K - Force Update Plex?

Hello,

The latest version of plex available to me in the amazon store is 7.28.0.15501. I really want to try one of the newer 7.29 versions to see if some of my issues are resolved.

I know that I can slideload an .apk but would rather force an update online if I can; I have tried both gracefully rebooting and power-cycling the fire stick. I have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the app. I have triple checked that Automatic Updates in enabled in firestick settings. Not sure what else can be done?

I would appreciate any suggestions,
~T.J.

I strongly suggested to install 7.30beta that solved all my issues with fire tv.
You can use Downloader App to download the apk of demo from the forum and Downloader automatically install the apk.
Before starting the download uninstall the current version of Plex.

Thanks!

I used downloader to update to 7.29.2.16071

Some of my issues are resolved. I can direct-play local 4K video content with both old/new player and AC3 audio.

The same file becomes choppy if I try to use the trueHD(Atmos) audio track. Strangely if I lower the video quality and BOTH the video and the ATMOS audio are being transcoded there is no issue. Same behaviour in both the old and new player. I can live with this for now, I don’t want to mess around with any beta versions.

Does anyone know if this will no longer be updated automatically since I installed the APK manually?

Amazon is notoriously slow with updates.

Hey, could you give me some more assistance how to update the current 7.28.xxx version on my Fire TV 4k Stick to a working one?

It seems that the current version only supports profile 1.0 in h.264 encoding. So nearly no media can be played.

I had the same issue and I solve in the following way:

  1. Unistall Plex 7.28
  2. Install Downlaoder from Amazon store
  3. Download Plex 7.30.0.16218-beta apk (you can find link above)
  4. Install Plex 7.30.0.16218-beta using Downloader app
  5. enjoy

Looking up for the link… all I see is a white ceiling

Mind posting a link? lol

Thank you for the link.

The 7.30 beta plays all files not working with 7.28 but all media ist stuttering. Is there another official version I could test?

If I install plex using the Downloader app, will it continue to get the latest updates? Or do I have to keep doing it manually?

Rhetorically speaking, if you sideload the new version and it does fix your issues, why would you want newer versions to auto-install after that? So you can wake up one day and find yourself back to a non-working setup?

There has been a lot of hubbub the last month or so from people about 4K playback and other issues on the Fire TV app, I, meanwhile, have been able to enjoy my server fine during this entire self-isolation craze. It’s because I sideloaded 7.27.1.15203 to my device using the Downloader app – and I just left it on that version.

None of the issues I have are fixed in any newer app versions, according to the release notes, so why update? Same with the Plex Media Server itself. I’m not on the latest-latest version, but the only changes that have happened have been mostly Live TV and DVR-related, a feature I don’t use.

If it aint broke, don’t fix it.

Firestick 4k installed plex in Kodi Huge difference from the Amazon app.
