So Im a huge Plex fan (and lifetime member) and in December cut the cord in favor of playstation vue and installed a HDHomeRun and now enjoy live TV off air via plex.
My only complaint is the interlacing… It makes TV unwatchable from certain channels (here in Los Angeles that’s channel 2, 4, and 11. 7 is 720P already so no issues there). Both Live TV on the interlaced channels AND recroded content from those channels (that supposedly gets transcoded) looks horrible.
So I have a Mac mini running the Plex server and feeding that into FireTV boxes throughout the house. I’ve read that the firetv doen’st have the horsepower to deinterlace, and I cant figure out how to FORCE transcoding on the server on live tv. Even when I select a different transcode level on live TV, it goes back to “actual resolution”. AND the stuff that I have recorded for some reason doesnt appear to be de-interlaced either.
If I can fix this one issue, I’d be happy as a clam.
Trying to avoid:
Buying a HDHR Extend (with on board hardware transcoding),
Getting rid of the firetvs (cause I have them all setup and working well for every other plex feature, playstation vue, etc).
Our new player in v6.13 should of solved this issue as it brings a number of improvements for Live TV and DVR. The FireTV should now be able to direct play without having to transcoder from your server.
How do i tell what version of the player I am on?
Does this solve the interlacing issues? Thats the real problem here… sports and anything with motion becomes unwatchable (I know thats not plexs fault, but can the video issue be fixed)?
Any final fix for this? 1080i, which is NBC, makes the Olympics unwatchable until the next day once it’s been transcoded to 1080p and the commercials removed. (that part works good at least).
If you are still having issues with 6.13.7 (you can see the version in the settings screen), could you grab some logs and a sample (that hasn’t been transcoded by the server) and we will investigate!
Sorry to jump on to an old thread but it seems to describe the problem I’m having too. 3rd Gen Fire TV stick + Plex app playing back recorded SD TV in the UK via HD Homerun.
Playback looks like there’s no deinterlace at all. For what it’s worth the MrMC app plays the same file better with auto deinterlace options enabled.
Me too - except I’m HD-Homerun - Plex Server, Plex player. Recorded shows (at least on one channel) are interlaced. Horrible. I’m not sure if this is actually fixable?
Given so few streaming devices support deinterlacing of Live TV, I can’t believe Plex Media Server (or the player if possible) can’t provide this where needed. @sixones - What’s Plex’s position on this - it seems a no brainer to me to have this capability included.
