What can be done about the interlacing on the Fire TV when streaming live TV from it? It’s pretty bad. I’ve read a few posts here and there that say the Fire TV cannot handle interlacing as well as other devices. Others say it is a Silicon Dust problem and lack of settings on their DVR. Either way what can I do? Currently I run all recorded programs through HandBrake to deinterlace, but that does not work with live TV.
Thanks.
I’ve been wondering the same thing. I’m using a SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime.
Interlacing is quite prominent when using the SiliconDust app on the FireTV / FirTV Stick but so too is the case with Plex LiveT TV. It is fortunate at least that the interlacing isn’t in recorded TV.
Any fix for live TV Interlacing would be much appreciated though,…
Same Here. HomeRun extend, looks good on a small tv at 720p, but SUX at 1080p. Since nothing is broadcast in 1080p, can’t plex automagically transcode to 720p? Tried their settings and it blew out the aspect ratio.
My local NBC channel broadcasts in 1080i. For recordings I do I set the local playback quality to eight megabits 1080P and it eliminates the interlacing.
Thank you for attempting to answer my question. I did try tinkering with the playback quality settings for both home and internet streaming to no avail. I believe the problem to be multi-symptomatic. First I think that the HDHomeRun Prime DVR simply does not provide a feature to eliminate interlacing and the Fire TV does not have the processing power to fix the interlacing glitches. With recorded shows I just run it through HandBrake, which is free online, to deinterlace and convert to MP4. This file is much smaller and reduces said glitches, but does not work for live TV streaming. Now maybe this can be fixed, but I am not sure what I can do about it on my end.
Technology never seems to move as quickly as I would like for it to. Such is the way of things. I suppose if I want a spaceship I’ll just have to build it myself. Even if someone did somehow manage to build a spaceship for me it would not have a decent sound system, so I would have to install it myself, because who wants to go interstellar without blasting the tunes.

Update:
I have used the advice of joshua.andrew.blake@gmail.com and KeanenW to come up with a possible fix. Although it is not a perfect fix it does help somewhat. I did try tinkering with the playback settings again and found that if I set it even lower at 4 Mbps, 720p HD I was able to eliminate the interlacing. This solution, although it eliminated the interlacing, produced a more grainy picture with some pixelation at times. Not ideal, but it will work that way. I’m just a quality hound and prefer things to work how I want them to.
