Fix Sync on iOS!

Sync on the current iOS app it worthless! There are so many crippling issues, all regarding dependability and stability/accessibility of synced content.

  1. Often, Plex will throw a standard error when you try to play a synced song, even if it was correctly synced and you’ve played it via the current sync before. The only way to actually listen to your song is to delete from sync and just stream, or re-sync.

  2. Mysteriously disappearing content. This happens ALL THE TIME. I was on my way into the airport, listening to some synced music. I stopped playback once I arrived so I could check in and get to my gate. Once on the plane, I opened Plex to continue listening, and it had removed all of my synced content. The sync list was in tact, but nothing was actually accessible anymore. HOW IS THIS NOT A PRIORITY BUG?

  3. Can’t reorder sync list items. So I was trying to bump the albums I cared about to the top so it could re-sync those first, but as I dragged the item, the list would glitch and the item would drop back to its position near the bottom. To actually get it to the top, you have to move it to the top of the screen, scroll the list one page, and repeat until you’re done. For. Each. Item.

Please! Sync is a paid feature! For the love of all things holy, fix it!

Nice assumption there.

I find a lot of Sync's issues on iOS stem from the fact it cannot run in the background, happens all the time with TV stuff that needs transcoding, kicks it off then after it's been transcoded never get's pulled to the device, unless you close / re-open or manually sync again.

Never tried music though (Spotify FTW) so cannot comment there. Priority works though on the iPad at least, you can drag them up and down.

As far as I know iOS 7 provides an api of some sort for background updating so it sounds like this may be possible. Of course using iOS 7 apis may mean cutting support for devices < iOS 7...

Yeah, My devices are staying firmly in iOS6 land, iOS7 looks horrid!.. I've got an iPhone 5S in my draw I try not to use because of it ;)

This is correct

It's an inference. This is a critical bug. A showstopper. If it was a priority, it would be fixed.

Let me give you an example that just happened today where synced content disappeared. I updated to the most recent (as of today) iOS version of the Plex app. I had an album synced to my iPhone 5, and I had the option for "Only show synced libraries" selected. I listened to this album and other synced albums on my plane flight with the phone in Airplane Mode. When I got off the plane, I deactivated airplane mode, made my way to baggage claim, and got in my car. I went to listen to this album again, and it was no longer marked as synced (little orange arrows), and the album (and the majority of the others) had a question mark next to it in the sync list. It would not let me listen to it.

I hadn't altered the sync settings at all, not even to add or remove content. No content was added or altered on the server. Every item in the sync list was marked as completely synced. It shouldn't have had anything to be doing in the background at all aside from playing the music. The system just did it of its own volition. Now that I'm home, it's reconverting and re-syncing all 50 or so albums in the sync list and I can't listen to a single one until it finishes.

Please. Por favor. おねがいします. Let's get this fixed.

yea i felt the same way till i used it and used it for soloing it's the norm now and i find little bits more useful now. don't know if it's an ios7 thing but i started to notice some web links at the bottom of safari that were actually links to the tabs i had open on my macbook, now if i need to look at a site on my phone that i was looking at on the macbook i can just switch.

i hope you were given the 5s and didn't buy it, seems a waste, you should probably sell it or donate to a charity auction

I test devices as part of my ‘day’ job, the only iOS drive I can (and do) use daily is the iPad 2 (the air and 7 really are not nice either). I’m an ex Windows Mobile user, so now firmly encamped in Android territory (help occasionally on xda-devs too)

iOS 7 just doesn’t look good, they have tried to copy he best bits of droid and wp8 and not hit the sweet spot. I’m sure I could get used to it, but don’t have to, so don’t…

Sounds selfish I know, and if I used it more Han the 20min I have to to do things I bet it would grow, but hey.

Oh and people think I’m mad using the Note3 as my daily driver, but I wonder how hey are able to use ‘tiny’ iPhones

As for Safari…

Linux, Windows, Android and chrome FTW ;)… I do kinda like osX though to be fair… Bit too ‘girly’ as not enough clr but hey

Fair play, I kinda like the simplicity of apple products but couldn’t be without my Linux servers for all the flexibility they offer or windows for that matter

New iOS Plex App out today, I was hopeful that some of the sync issues have been resolved. It's too early to tell, but lots of content is again, for no apparent reason, re-syncing. And, amazingly, the functionality to drag a synced item in the list to re-order is even more busted than before. I cannot move an item. In addition, when I go into the sync list to try and re-order, sync is halted. Back to waiting...
