FLAC + CUE please

please make this happen
Plex devs, make this happen! We need this for plex to be working as a media streamer. No one asked for Plex gaming stuff that only works on windows, this is much more important.
Please support CUE! I thought I was doing something wrong only to find this thread.
There is definitely an audiophile market for a music streamer/player. I love the way PLEX organizes video and audio files efficiently and attractively. There are a few areas where it could really give some high end audio streamer/players some competition. The first is supporting CUE files - this is a standard option for playing FLAC files. Sure, there are utilities for splitting a CD in FLAC format to individual files, but this is an inconvenience to users and something that most audiophile players do not require. The other missing area is support for options to get the best possible sound from each FLAC file. While the sound quality of PLEX is decent, the sound of the same file played by Audirvana or similar software is significantly better. There are lots of reasons I often play music through PLEX, but best sound quality is not one of them. Audiophiles happily (?) pay for better sound quality and PLEX could be a major player in that market if they put some effort into this area. In a typical roundup of audiophile players/streamers, PLEX is often omitted - which is a shame. 20 Audio Applications To Enhance Your Music Listening Experience - Bits and Bytes - Audiophile Style
I like the ideas here.
Given a choice between CUE support and what you’re referring to, ie. better controls and instrumentation for audiophiles, more controls makes 1000 times more sense.
CUE files are on their way out + software vendors will focus on whats on the way in rather than what’s on the way out = plex probably won’t bother with it. However the observations by so many in this thread about the need for more tools for FLAC/audiophiles are all solidly grounded so your suggestion is a good one.
The future of digital music is one file per track. It’s been going in that direction for a long time and will be finalized at some point. CUE will be dead. It’s a reality.
Every 6 months will you come here to remind us that the cue sheet is dead?
I assure you that in 6 months I will continue to use the cue sheet on free players like Foobar2000 which are updated continuously but certainly do not take away well-established and obvious features
Plexamp should be the reference for music but it is unmatched by other players due to the lack of exclusive audio support.
Plex? gapless is missing … doesn’t even enter the charts … but … amazing … cue sheet support would solve this problem ![]()
Of course +1 for cue. When someone says cue will be dead, I just go and pat my LP player. When it´s easy, why not both?
10 f… years since the original request. This is insane. I have to convert half of my library with slightly loosing in audible quality (yes, there are no programs which cut a flac file into pieces 1-to-1 ).
Plex team, tell me pls, why have I to cut my vinyl disk copies into separate files when I can put timings into a .cue file???
I don’t honestly know if splitting apps lose quality but the theme is different: it is not permissible that in 2021 a music player (for a fee, let’s remember) lacks basic features that are available in high-performance and free systems.
I have to repeat myself … the implementation of the cue sheet would easily allow to overcome the gapless issue that is still incredibly missing in the main app …
+1 for CUE support!!!
