When plex does support .cue for long flac files?
It’s very important feature, and a lot of my firends don’t wanna use plex as main server for streaming music. Maybe for premium subscribers? It’s very important.
What you think?
There is a feature request for this. However, given the age of that request, I would not expect it to be implemented anytime soon.
.cue files have only one purpose: to faithfully replicate an Audio CD onto a writable CD.
When did you burn a CD last time?
It could have other purposes, like proper gaps between songs. Some albums are meant to be listened to in its entirety by people without ADHD.
When you play an album in Plex (and most other players out there), you will get your pauses just fine.
I’m using .cue for divide whole .flac file to separate songs. Also it’s will be helpful using search, because I can’t remember all albums)
Maybe you have some suggestion about how could cut whole album to separate tracks without loss of quality.
Yes, I’m aware of that use case. foobar2000 is a prominent player which supports this.
Still, I think it’s anachronistic.
That aspect can be covered by the integrated database of any decent player. Plex uses a database as well. A database provides superior search and organization capabilities than a text-based approach can ever achieve.
The informations about the album (so-called “metadata”) in the cue file, need to be moved into the separated FLAC files of each album track.
The metadata go into “meta tags” which can be read by pretty much any audio player.
You need to find a software which can take the whole FLAC and its associated .cue file and then not only splits the FLAC on the track boundaries, but also writes the metadata into the separated FLAC files for each track.
Back in the day when I needed to do that, I used a dedicated software tool. I’ve now learned that the above mentioned foobar2000 player software can do the same as well. Without loss of audio quality, of course.
