Flexibility for Naming Conventions through user input

Hi,

New to Plex, but eager to learn and use the platform. There is, however, and immediate blocker which (to me), should be fairly easy to change, and would give much more flexibility to every user.

I completely understand that Plex needs a specific structure to retrieve metadata from files and make everything look pretty and organized. However, I think we could all benefit from adding a feature in which you can specify the structure of the naming in your files, so that Plex can analyze and add according to it. My Library right now is structured as Year - Title, so that I can sort via year and not by movie name while managing and viewing files in Windows / MacOS.

For the record, I do not mean Plex doing magic and identifying disorganized and inconsistent naming on every file. Just to add a box when adding the Library so that the user can specify the structure and syntax. After that, Plex can translate it to the way it better suits the program to organize, and everyone’s happy.

I think what you’re asking for is the same as this request:

1st – thanks for your suggestion!
2nd – it seems this is indeed already covered by the suggestion linked by beckfield. Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I recommend you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting/cannibalizing votes (while closing this thread).

Agreed, same request only his is better structured, I couldn’t find it through searching but happy to keep things there.
