Fling to Apple TV Plex from windows machine

Have apple TV 4K . plex works fine on the device

i want to use a windows computer to select the media and have it play on the apple tv plex. when i download the plex media player the “Cast/fling” is greyed out and un selectable.

when i use plex web the cast to device only lets me cast to my tv (which is chromecast casting). i want to fling the media

the only thing that i found that lets me select a different “player” is the microsoft store app plex this lets me select the apple tv player and play that way works just the way i want the problem??? app crashes as soon as i hit play the media plays but app crashes every single time. tried on desktop. tried on laptop. tried on tablet.

program has not been updated in years. why does this old outdated program actually let me select the player and properly fling but the newest updated programs do not work at all???

what is the fix to these new programs to work right or a fix for the old program to work rivht?

edit: to help add to this. oh my iphone i can click the same button to select player and the apple tv does pop up. “plex for apple tv” so i know the connection works. it appears to be a problem with the windows pmp and web player

Do you have a running Plex server in the same local network as the ATV and the web browser?

Have you tried to use app.plex.tv ?

i originally had just the remote server

so i started a local server but still had everything connected to remote server.

started getting “cannot playback file” now. it does see the player with the local server started.

any ideas?

did try try the app.plex.tv (i call that the web app)

The thing is, there are two of them:
A ‘local’ and a ‘hosted’ one.

  • app.plex.tv is the ‘hosted’
  • http://127.0.0.1:32400/web is the local one. It also comes up if you click on the tray icon and “open Plex” .

i think using the local ip worked. i can then still select my remote plex server and it seems to work. like double bouncing
