Is there a way to get a floating player inside the Windows version of the plex client? Should I be using something else instead of Plex for Windows?

Nope there is no way to get that. I asked for this ages ago when the windows store client was still around but it never got added.
I am currently using Brave browser on Windows and this extension (picture-in-picture by Google) which works great for any video on any site. Might help
I also used to use this Always on top script
I get picture-in-picture on my windows 10 pc for video thru firefox. Plex, Netflix and Youtube all support it seems like it cant recall seeing it tho prior to the updates i picked up from windows 10 last night.
Indeed. Firefox allows you to detach the video from the page into a floating window. Chrome doesn’t (without optional add-on).
@OttoKerner uhmm… yes it does
Hi ! Just found your topic by chance, I think if you use opera GX browser, you can activate picture in picture mode for video, so can you play plex in floating window.
No need for an extension to do this in Chrome (or Edge Chromium for that matter):
Works fine with Plex.
V82 of Chrome is not released yet.
It’s in canary so people can try it if they want. I’m happily running Edge Dev without any issues which also has the same functionality.
Then again, the initial question was for the windows client, not the browser…
My issue with the web clients is it transcodes. I went with a different route. I am using plex-mpv-shim and deskpins. It works great for what I am needing and doesn’t transcode.
