Does it work to put a series of movies into a single folder and name the folder after the series?
E.g. Folder name: James Bond. I then put all my 007 movies into that folder with names like “Thunderball (1965).mkv”. Will PMS catalog the movies correctly?

It depends what you mean by ‘Correctly’. If you’re thinking Plex will put those movies into some sort of ‘Collection’ that would be wishful thinking on your part. Here’s how Plex wants you to deal with ‘Movie Sets and Sequels’: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1342502/#Comment_1342502
If you’re putting each Movie into it’s own folder the folder must be compliant along with the Movie:
A Movie Library/
…Movie Name (YEAR)/
…Movie Name (YEAR).xxx
Otherwise just about any ‘Nesting’ scheme you feel appropriate should work - to some degree. If you lay out your libraries and set up ‘Sets and Sequels’ the way Plex thinks you should you won’t need extensive nesting.
Some time ago I felt 007 deserved a library of his own (noting his licence to kill) and using the above technique here they are:
Well I tried creating a dozen collections, but they seem to have vanished, can’t find them at all. Playlists seem the only way to group movies, I guess. I can edit my library entries, giving them new labels & sort text, and now they are listed in now groups in my Movies library. I like the idea of, instead, creating a zillion libraries because they’re LOTS easier to work with than playlists, plus nobody seems able to see my playlists but me. Sigh.
It baffles me that anyone would design such a rigid UI that’s so tightly-coupled with the agent functions. That’s so early 70’s it just makes me wanna spit.
