Is it possible to revoke the write permissions for the folder with the media from PLEX or are there problems because of this?
Plex works with read only permissions for media folders.
Read-write is required for some features:
- Media deletion by server owner
- Storing optimized versions
- Recording Live TV/DVR
- You tell Plex to delete TV episodes after viewing or a specific time period (see thread).

That info is stored in the Plex database.
I run Plex on a Synology DS918+. The userid plex has RO access to my media files (I use none of the previously mentioned features). I’ve never had any issues with Plex needing additional permissions to my media files.
