No write access to destination

I just upgraded to 1.15.8.1198 64 bit version(from the synology download page).

Every show that was supposed to be recorded since that time failed with the message “no write access to destination” in the recordings-calendar view.

Prior to that I have never seen this issue for many months.

I have the synology DS918+

I would very much appreciate it if someone would help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance

Have you already made the permission changes according to this notice?

I was not aware of that, thank you very much for the response. I changed the permission, added a test recording and it worked.

What permission should the “PLEX” have?

For the TV/DVR library?

R/W (read/write) lets PMS (DVR and media optimisation) write into your media folders.

In the control panel/shared folder are a number of items (maybe they are folders). One of them is “video” which is where PLEX puts the tv shows that the DVR records (I gave this the R/W permission you suggested). There is another which is “Plex”. I don’t know what that is used for and my question concerns this one. I did take away all access permissions and then PLEX application would not start. I gave it a permission of R/W and restarted the DS918 and then PLEX application started. I was wondering if R is enough for the Plex item (I assume it is a folder holding the PLEX files?).

May I add a little insight here?

  1. Synology creates the video shared folder (what they’re called) for it’s Video Station product.
  2. Synology has special permission they apply for Video Station.
  3. Those permissions almost always cause issues with Plex because we don’t run Plex as an administrative user. (can go anywhere on the NAS)

Yes, “Control Panel” -> “Shared Folders” are the places we store things. The term “Shared Folders” is used because, being a NAS, those names are how you access the files from another computer / tablet / phone on your home LAN.

The best solution found is to avoid the Synology default here.

  1. Create a share called “Movies” (for example), or “TV”, or whatever other names you wish to use.
  2. Give your username permission to R/W permission.
  3. Give Plex permission to R/W so DVR can store the recordings there.
  4. Now move your media into the proper shared folders.
  5. Point your “Movies” library section to /volume1/Movies (nice and easy to maintain)
  6. Repeat this for other shared folders and sections.

Supplemental:

I have seen shares created as:

Movies
Movies-DVR
TV
TV-DVR
