Folder view intermittently empty, on ALL Android TV/Fire TV apps, from all servers, for past year

I see a couple other posts about this topic, with NO responses.

On all Android TV (aka Google TV) and Fire TV apps (on 5 (FIVE) different devices), folder view shows up as empty, about 50% of the time. Completely random. So, sometimes you have to exit and go back in 5, 10 times (it’s the flip of a coin). And god forbid if you have folders inside folders.

Folder view from the same server DOES WORK on:
Web app
Android mobile app
Roku

This is from 2 different servers on Windows 10 PCs.

I tried rolling back the server (to version 1.21 (I think)) but that didn’t fix it.

I tried rolling back app versions, (to whatever the last major interface change was, sorry don’t remember number), and that DID fix it; but I lost too much other functionality.

The issue did start about a year ago, so I’m guessing it’s an app bug on all Firestick/TV and Google TV devices, since others also have commented about it.

Server Version#: 1.27.2.5929-a806c5905
Player Version#: 9.3, 9.0, 8 etc.

I’ve been having a similar problem, but only for about a month. All of my media becomes inaccessible. Like it can’t find my server. Easiest way to get it back is to exit Plex, navigate to settings, application settings, manage installed applications, scroll all the way down to Plex, force stop and then clear cache. It’s obnoxious.

To Cappomutato - that happens to me too, at times, and yes, clearing the cache works.

This is a completely different problem - ONLY folder view, and ONLY when viewing on Android TV or Fire TV apps (and I’m guessing the Fire TV app is built off the Android TV version). There are always problems with folder view on Android/Fire. ALL other versions of the apps work fine. I have tried EVERYTHING, for hours/days, as detailed above. The same Android apps works fine when in mobile mode; fails in TV mode.

This is constant, and permanent, and never changes, so I’m getting kind of annoyed that I don’t see anyone working on a solution to this, after my post and a few other posts mentioning the same exact thing.

For now, I’ve simply switched to Emby when I need to folder view things, and will be forced to buy their Fire App. It NEVER has a problem with folder view on the same machines.

I guess I give up; I have a lifetime Plex Pass but have never gotten a response.

As I said I did a few hours of troubleshooting; this error happened on 3 fire TV devices, and 2 Google TV devices; from various folders on 2 different servers, both on Windows 10 computers. The app and/or server is at fault, there is no user error.

I had to move on to Emby, where this error never happens with the same folders, from a server on the same computer that produces Plex errors. Annoyed because I have a lifetime Plex Pass, but luckily, for now Emby seems free except for the $4 charge for the Fire TV app.

hi sir how can i enable folder view for android device

Hi ifelixculpa, I guess you’re asking me, the plex user (not plex employee)?

On an android device, like a phone (or tablet, I think), what I do is go to the section (like “TV shows”, for example), then on the bottom of the screen, click “library” (not “recommended”, the other button), then at the top right, next to the 3 dots, is the icon that looks like a funnel, made out of 4 horizontal lines. If you click that, there is an option for folders.

On an android TV, or Google TV: You click “library” on top., then another row of options shows up below … I think different for different types of content … in a “TV show” folder, you’d select “all”, then next to that is the option to select “folder” (instead of “TV shows”, which groups them by show).
