This is my situation… I left my home 7 months ago and brought my Hard drive with 1000 movies and 100 TV series along with the backed up %localappdata% plex media folder and back up registry enties

I then did a fresh install of plex here and imported my registry and was fine. Plex Nirvana

In June I am going back to my main house with a backup of the data folder, reg files and Hard drive with 2000 movies in it now and 200 tv series

Do I just put Hard drive and let Plex scan for new files ( probably hours)

OR

Delete old folder and put newer one in it’s place?

If so, delete older reg files and import newer one?

I know all the unchecking empty trash things beforehand

Just wish to know which is easier and also when I return back here if I can do the same.

The reason I don’t stream is I turned off internet knowing I’d be away for months

Thanks guys!

As long as you give the hard drive with the media files the exact same drive letter which it has before, you want the second option.

i.e. “Delete old folder and put newer one in it’s place”

If so, delete older reg files and import newer one?

Probably the best option, yes.

Still, I cannot recommend to do this procedure routinely.

Thank you for the answer.

Is it foolproof if I just uninstall ALL of plex when I get home? Does that erase its .reg file too?

Then a new install with away from home folder. and reg, like a pc to new pc transfer?

Just curious really if an UNINSTALL gets rid of EVERYTHING

Thanks !

No, definitely not.

Unless you have other 3rd-party software running, like “Registry cleaner” or “uninstaller”. (NOT recommended!)

I understand Ottto.

However, if I reformat my HOME PC from scratch each time I have to bring back my away new updated folder and reg I should be good to bring them in ?

Sure, but I don’t see the necessity for this extreme measure.
