Export the whole Plex branch from the old registry.
Give each hard drive with the media the same exact drive letter as it had before.
Same applies to the hard drive with the Plex data.
Import the registry backup first on the new machine.
Then download and install Plex server.
The old machine must not be running anymore when you start Plex server on the new machine.
The old machine will definitely not be running as I am formatting my windows drive. The media drives will be left untouched so there’s no issues with drive letters for both.
So all I would need to do after a fresh windows install is first import the Plex branch from the registry backup and then install the server? The registry wouldn’t then be overwritten?
Careful, the drive letters can change if you install a fresh Windows from scratch. (I’m not saying that they do inevitably. It depends a lot on how they were connected beforehand and in which order they were commissioned originally).
I’d note down the drive letters as they are now, and then compare after the new Windows has been set up. Just to be on the safe side.
Nope, if you import it before the first startup of Plex server, you should be good.
