Thats one sollution, but that ruins a lot for other people who needs the transcoder occationally. If only he could dissable the transcoder, only for that one offending user who never learns.
Ofcourse, you could boot the user entirely. That would be my choise.
It’s crazy, I have a friend of mine who randomly does the same thing and right now he is killing my plex server. Booting him really isn’t an option as he is dying from cancer and he is not tech savvy and don’t want to try to walk him through this when he is already in so much pain. Just really hoping for a solution.
Inconvenient solutions for an even more inconvenient situation:
remove the subtitles from your media
beef up your server
gift him a player that can deal with those subtitles (I’m playing most of my media through an Apple TV and haven’t seen much transcoding since the introduction of the new player, including forced VOBSUB and PGS subtitles)
There’s no short-term central force-disabling of subtitles in the pipeline of Plex.
I don’t own one anymore, however its still the nicest, smoothest Plex experience I have had.
If they ever give us HD audio passthru back I shall return.
Here’s another one that often escapes mention:
Go Get - or - Create Some SRT, text based subs that’ll direct play on everything (almost). Drop those PGS/VOBs in the bin. <—especially since you know they’re gonna transcode for your friend remotely - that’s on you, not him.
Thank you to all for the reply suggestions tricks.
Unfortunately I can’t kick off the friend so I’ll try the workaround. I also can’t disable teanscoding cause here I only have 20Mb up so…
