Hi!
With recent DV playback improvements on devices like Shield TV there is a backfire for Sony Bravia TV.
Bravias support only unmodified D O V I Profile 5
TV outputs extremly oversaturated colours in attempt to playback any DoVi mkv/ts/mp4 with Profile 7 or 4 or 8
There is no way for user to disable Dolby Vision on TV itselfs.
Possible solution - Force HDR10 on BRAVIA_ATV?_4K devices for any DV profile but 5
Sadly it’s not possible once TV in Dolby Vision mode.
Preferences would be nice to have in future since “Device supports Dolby Vision” tells only half a story
Blacklist Bravias as quick fix should be good enough.
Ha, this is the exact problem I was having, but now that mine reverts to playing HDR, it’s stuck with motion settings turned on as well regardless if I turn them off or switch to different modes.
I found a local deal on a used Nvidia Shield, just installed, updated the software, man I wish the Android OS on my Sony TV was this smooth!! Using Plex now and my 4K Dolby Vision files are freezing as if my bitrate is not fast enough (in infuse I get 300-400Mbps bitrate speeds), and Dolby Vision is not working at all. What am I doing wrong lol
Also, super noob question, but is there a way to view all movies in the Plex app? I have several hard drives setup and each hd is listed separately. I can’t seem to just find a way to see all my movies listed so I can pick one. Instead there’s just “recently added movies”.
In the Android app, you can browse libraries via the sidebar, and then the top row of actions after clicking a library.
On the files that are freezing, are you using subtitles? Is your device direct playing the files or transcoding them? (You can see inside of the Playback Info screen inside of the player menu).
This sadly is a limitation of Android, we can detect if Dolby Vision is supported but we can’t tell what levels of Dolby Vision are available. What should be happening though is that the Dolby Vision decoder should be seeing that it can’t play the profile and then falling back to HDR10.
I have several Dolby Vision movies now on Plex that are not detecting as Dolby Vision. They are tagged in Plex as “UHD 4K HDR”. I’ve tried to re-analyze the files but none of them have changed to Dolby Vision. Under “more info” the video is listed as: “HEVC 153 Main 10” for Gemini Man and Sonic The Hedgehog for example, but I can verify with the MediaInfo app that they are in fact Dolby Vision. Is there anything I can do to get Plex to read and play these files as Dolby Vision?
Ah ok. I changed the picture settings on the Nvidia Shield to the Dolby Vision HDR10 setting and it seemed to work, the DV logo comes up on the top right now but I’m hearing the Dolby Vision codec doesn’t read the colors correctly on mkv DV files. I’m not sure I understand the technical details, but the colors do seem a little saturated. Or maybe I’m wrong and that’s how they’re supposed to look?
@Grem Have you managed to see Dolby Vision on the XH90 in conditions? I have Judder in panoramic scenes and it annoys me a lot. I have tried mkv and m2ts and they all have that bug. The demos with DV move them correctly both in usb, as plex, as kodi
