I have two Sony a80js. They both streamed dolby vision just fine until a few days ago when one stopped supporting it. I compared my two sets and noticed that the one that is still showing dolby vision has the option to update the plex app while the one that doesn’t appears to have the latest update. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that the latest update somehow deactivated dolby vision. Anyone else encountering this?
What are the versions numbers you have installed?
EDIT: DoVi still working flawless on my Shield TV and my Philips Android TV using Plex 9.17.0
TV that has dolby vision is using 9.16.2.38798
TV that doesnt is using 9.17.0.38861
Just updated the older app and now I’ve lost dolby vision capability. At least I know now
I think there must definitely be some other reason. I also updated a Fire Stick 4K Max to 9.17.0 and DolbyVision is still working there also.
There is this entry in the Changelog though:

Yeah, its all a little beyond the scope of my knowledge now. Dolby vision plays perfectly on my other streaming apps and in my Vimu media player app when I connect a hard drive to the tv when I play the same files so idk
I’m having the same issues on my Sony X950H. DV files were playing just fine the previous weekend, tested last night and now reverting to HDR10.
Alright I troubleshooted this issue a bit.
On the Shield TV DV profile 7 and profile 8.1 just played like before.
On my Philips Android TV my DV profile 7 Remuxes doesn’t start at all (endless buffering), I cannot remember if that always was the case. I never watched Remuxes via the TV. My DV Profile 8.1 rips of those movies worked still fine with Version 9.17.0
However on my Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max the results are very awkward when using 9.17.0 vs. a downgrade to 9.16.2. See the table below.
Legend:
- DV: Correctly triggers DolbyVision
- Black (DV): Triggers Dolby Vision but screen stays black
- Pink: Screen is just Pink and SDR
- HDR: Fallback to HDR

Blackout is a Frankenstein Profile 8.1 file, I created from the HDR10+ Data of that movie. It plays on Shield TV or Android TV, but apparently not on Fire TV.
All other Profile 8.1 Rips I created from the Profile 7 Remuxes are working fine and trigger DV.
EDIT: Updated the table with DV profile details.
A few comments here: HDR10+ is not supported by Amazon devices, which is why your 8.1 file there could be having issues (also, anything created like that is not guaranteed to work). As for the pink issue, that is most likely to do with the TV and device setup, and not something on our end. However, a sample file of anything that’s problematic is always appreciated.

What do you mean? HDR10+ absolutely works fine on my Fire TV 4K and 4K Max. But you are right Profile 8.1 with additional HDR10+ metadata seems to be an issue.
Sorry, that wasn’t clear, I didn’t mean HDR10+ in general, that is supported, I was meaning the HDR10+/DoVi 8.1 thing that you did isn’t supported.

TV: Sony A90J Google TV
Since update 9.17, impossible to have Dolby Vision on remuxes (play in HDR10, but DoVi remains OK on other types of files).
Downgrade to 9.16, Dolby Vision becomes Ok again on all file types
