I have created optimised versions of some WMV files at original quality, but to prevent the need for transcoding. Is there a way to force Plex to send the optimised version in preference to the original without having to select the actual version each time i want to play it?

You can sort of achieve this without a setting. If you’ve optimized the video to a specific quality (say 12 Mbps), then in your Plex client, set the playback quality to match (12 Mbps), it should choose to direct play the optimized version instead of transcoding the original.
