Force Pre-Roll Vdeos on remote users!

Why? We’re not talking about Plex forcing something onto the users - it would be at the discretion of a Plex server admin. If I let you use my Plex server I should be damned able to do whatever I want.

I’m just saying imagine you were forced to watch a trailer before every Netflix movie, would suck imo. I dont mmow why I would want to force my users to have to watch my ■■■■■■ pre roll 15 second clip before every episode

I’m paying for Netflix so there’s a difference there.

In any case, some server that I have access to has a pre-roll. No big deal, I couldn’t care less.

If you don’t want one for your users, then you don’t have anything to worry about. If you don’t want to view one from a remote server, then you always have a choice of not using that remote server.

Well this feature already DOES exist but not our choice. They recently allowed you to force Rick Rolld on people for April Fools day as an option , this was FORCED and played even if they didn’t have the checkbox checked… so this wouldn’t be very hard for them to allow…not sure why it isn’t an option honestly

We don’t want it for TV show episodes… only MOVIES. If you are hosting Plex for people it should be the admins discretion whether or not to force this, not up to the people that are streaming.

That’s what he means I believe. Have the OPTION to force it on all users, doesn’t mean you have to do it.

You want an option??? That would seem to be the antithesis of everything Plex has stood for during at least the last two years.

It confuses users.
It complicates the code.
It makes maintenance harder.
It makes support harder.

Those, and others, are excuses that Plex has used for not providing options on many many features that have been requested and many changes that have been made by Plex,

I would not expect anything to be implemented, unless it makes money for Plex, if there needs to be an option to make it acceptable.

Thats not what I was thinking. I take the stance that your server could be set up to request the playing of a pre-roll, however I want the option to ignore such a request.

I don’t want anyone to be able to force me to watch anything. Plex is not the same service as broadcasting Television, or at the cinema, or any other kind of business that needs to advertise or make money.

My gut tells me that the people who want this fancy them selves as some kind of content provider (which is not what Plex sharing is about).

Plus what happens is some sicko make a pre-roll containing porn or some other disgusting act - what about my rights to protect me and my family from this ?

Sure I could end the sharing partnership - but only after the event. forced pre-roll is just a bad idea that has a high potential for abuse IMO.

If you are joining someones Plex server that you don’t know or trust that’s your own damn fault. Normal people wouldn’t put porn as a pre-roll and force users to watch it every time they want to watch a movie.

How do I know your normal ? If you know the people you share with then you don’t need a pre-roll you made.

You are not a broadcaster so you have no need at all.

so does Plex even respond to this stuff? This feature already exists as I said above. Why not just leave that checkbox there but instead of it saying “Rick rolld shared users on April 1st” just rename it to force pre-roll on shared users.

I trust plex more than you !

You don’t know if I normal or not. That’s the whole point. Who would want to join someones Shared Plex server if they don’t even really know that person. If you join a random persons Plex server that’s your OWN DAMN FAULT and guess what, the server admin SHOULD be able to do whatever the hell he pleases. My family and friends … see what I just said… MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS love the random preroll videos I’ve created so instead of having to tell them to click here and click there, blablabla every time they add a new device it would just be forced so they don’t have to remember to do that.

Then by your own rules you should not have pre-roll

No he should not, rules apply - this is not your service, your are bound by the terms set by plex.

Oh god give me a break!! then they would accept the pre-roll. There is no need to FORCE it is there ???

I wish there was a way to vote this down. That would give a more balanced look on what users really want.

You obviously can’t read an entire statement without making comments. I’m saying for the very fact that YOU don’t know if I’m normal or not means YOU should not accept an invite to my Plex server. I ONLY share with family and friends that I KNOW. If you join someones Plex server and you don’t know them then guess what, that’s your fault and to bring up your point about porn… how do you know that the person Plex server you are joining doesn’t have a whole category of “porn” that your precious so called family could see?

you should trust Plex more than me LOL. That’s a pretty dumb statement.

So the fact that this post is from January of 2016 and not 1 PLEX customer service has responded to this pretty much means, what the hell is the point of a feature request if they blatantly ignore them?

I read that like me they think is a rubbish idea.

Bit like this request then
