Force Pre-Roll Vdeos on remote users!

Sure I can I just misread thats all, but if you know the people you share with, then you can tell them to allow pre-roll - there is no need to have it forced. Simply because you know them is not justification to force them to watch anything. What sort of half pint dictator would do that ?

Why are some people so against this? If you’re an Admin of a server it should be up to you whether or not you want your users forced to watch a pre-roll video. If they don’t like it they don’t need to use your server. Plain and simple.

I just want to really use it for a less than 5 second splash screen (sort of what Netflix does), that’s all…

not usually, but sometimes.

Not commenting, is not ignoring.

Because its not for you to decide what I watch - your server or not !
I really hope plex devs don’t implement forced pre-roll.

What are you, like 12 years old? You sure come off as someone who thinks they’re entitled…

No, it is certainly not my choice to decide what my user’s want to watch, but I did put together all the time, effort and $$$ to build and maintain my Plex server, and if my users are going to get offended by watching a 10 second video before a movie I could care less. Keep in mind that I do have some choice in what my users watch since I determine the content that I put on my Plex server and make available.

If you have your own Plex server, do whatever you want with it, but give the Admin the choice.

Do you also get pissed off when you’re watching Netflix and there’s a brief logo before watching a movie?

So your someone who charges to share ???

You are not a broadcaster, and even they have to obay rules.
You sound like someone who is not sharing - sounds like you do it for profit.

Fancy yourself as a nextfix do you ? - what are you like 12 years old ???

I don’t charge ANYONE that uses my Plex server and they are all either friends or family. I do it because I enjoy it as a hobby.

Is there a problem trying to make it look like a more curated experience? You still haven’t given any reason why I shouldn’t have the choice to force a pre-roll video (other than you just wouldn’t like it as a user).

Well your not going to admit it on here are you !

Why should I be forced to watch your preroll, what are you some kind of megalomaniac ?

There is no reason why you should not be able or want do that - Provided I don’t have to take part in it. Hence I should be allowed to authorise it [IF] I want to see it.

Remember your only sharing a library - sure make it fancy - have pre-roll if you like, allow me to reject your pre-roll.

Your friends and family [cough cough] will allow it - so there is no problem.

This is not about pre-roll, its about FORCED pre-roll

@UmpaNET_Plex_Server @Lazarus_Long I’m sure y’all can have a conversation without the personal insults. Please stop with the personal insults and accusations. If the discussion is getting circular and frustrating take a break from it.

He insulted me first though

i put both your names there

Yes - I see that and edited, but honestly, am I wrong here?

It would be nice if you wouldn’t accuse people of being something that they aren’t (megalomaniac, sharing my server for profit)…

You know nothing about me, my Plex group, anything, so stop with the assumptions.

Thanks.

Tell me why would you want to force a pre-roll ? Why force it ??

I read through all the posts in the group and I think you were the one that mainly wasn’t in agreement with the suggestion. How would this change affect you anyways? If you’re a server admin you would just have the option turned off.

I’m done arguing with you about it - there are plenty of comments in this thread about why people might want it. Have a good day.

Because I believe it should be up to me to not watch your pre-roll if I don’t want to.

You cant compare sharing a library to Netflix, cable or any other broadcasting company they clearly are not the same, and its open to abuse.

You have not explained why it needs to be forced !

And there we have it, take what you will from this.

One big reason is it’s the fastest, easiest way to communicate to your users that your server will be down for maintenance, changes, whatever…I could put just a simple video together with verbiage on it. Another option would be to have some sort of broadcast message from the server admin to the app but I’m thinking that might be even more intrusive.

One thing you mentioned earlier was that someone could ā€œabuseā€ it by having porn or something in the pre-roll…but what’s to stop anyone from doing that now? I could easily put a very popular movie in my library and have it point to something really disgusting.

And BTW, nice slam at the end ā€œtake what you will from this.ā€ā€¦I don’t think that was called for at all. Just seemed kind of pointless to keep this up.

If your server is not on - its not on. There is no need to tell anyone in advance. Your sharing a library with friends and family, so there is no need at all !
Anyway, I think there is sufficient reading here for people to drill down and find the reason someone might want to FORCE a pre-roll I think.

I don’t see it happening…
