I have a Windows 10-based film server running on an Intel Xeon E3-1270 (3.4 GHz) CPU.
The CPU has a PassMark score of 8,246.
According to this page: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201774043-what-kind-of-cpu-do-i-need-for-my-server, here are the PassMark scores required (roughly) to transcode content:
The Guideline
- 4K HDR (50Mbps, 10-bit HEVC) file: 17000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)
- 4K SDR (40Mbps, 8-bit HEVC) file: 12000 PassMark score (being transcoded to 10Mbps 1080p)
- 1080p (10Mbps, H.264) file: 2000 PassMark score
- 720p (4Mbps, H.264) file: 1500 PassMark score
The Chromecast Ultra has big issues with 8-channel AAC audio, causing a h4 error. More details here: Chromecast AAC 7.1 stopped working (AAC 5.1 works)
I have several video files that I’m having said issues with. Some examples are:
1080p SDR (4.4 Mbps, 10-bit HEVC), 8-channel AAC (0.5 Mbps)
1080p SDR (3.0 Mbps, 10-bit HEVC), 8-channel AAC (0.7 Mbps)
1080p SDR (6.0 Mbps, 10-bit HEVC), 8-channel AAC (0.6 Mbps)
1080p SDR (4.3 Mbps, 10-bit HEVC), 8-channel AAC (0.6 Mbps)
Shouldn’t the audio be able to be transcoded on-the-fly on my server?
Can I force Plex to transcode the audio?
