Forced subtitle not showing for MKV (default and forced flags set)

Any ideas of things to look for? I have subtitles set to “display for foreign audio” and my language above and below are “english”. And I just looked in the mkv and it has the “default” and “forced” flag actually set, not just in title of the track. I think the file also has an “english” entry separately though (yep in another player…it has 2 other “english” entries).

I’m playing on an Xbox One X if that matters, with the official app.

Appears to be SRT format. Manually picking a subtitle in the player seemed to work. Now that one episode plays with the forced subtitles, but not episode 2 onward. Seems like I shouldn’t have to manually set things like that, but…
