Forced subtitles borked?

First, I can’t access ‘Languages’ in Server Settings any more; clicking it simply returns to ‘General’. I’m not sure when this started, but I recently updated to 1.1.4.2757.

Second, Forced Subtitles don’t seem to be working. I’ve just uploaded a few new videos that have force subtitles, and Plex is defaulting to not selecting a subtitle track, when the forced track should be selected. (I couldn’t confirm on my local server settings that ‘If Shown with foreign audio’ was still enabled – it certainly was in the past – but I was able to confirm it at https://plex.tv/users/profile).

I wonder whether the second issue might be related to the first.

For this issue, the problem has been fixed on the hosted version (plex.tv/web) and will be fixed on the local version on the next server release.

Glad to hear the first issue is on track to be fixed.

Any idea on the second?

Does Settings -> Server -> Language look like this?

And then for the media does it show a language, for example English, or UNKNOWN next to AUDIO: when you look at the pre-play screen?

and then finally are you using an external SRT or is the forced track embedded in the meda?

It certainly used to be set that way (and was for my account when I logged into https://plex.tv/users/profile), but I can’t confirm now given the bug (and I can’t use the hosted URL you provided, as I don’t allow my PMS to be visible outside my LAN).

Audio is English across the board. Here’s an example of what I see when I open the newly added episode:

and after I’ve manually selected the subtitle:

Previously, this would have preselected the forced subtitle track.

I have very few with forced subtitles in the same language as the audio, but just opened one of these few (Star Wars Ep I) and found that it no longer defaults to the forced track, either (it definitely used to, as I spent quite a bit of time figuring out that I had to use MKVToolnix to set the forced flag when I found Plex didn’t care about it being set to ‘default’ by Handbrake).

EDIT:

I just noticed there’s an ‘AUTOMATICALLY SELECT AUDIO AND SUBTITLE TRACKS’ tickbox at https://plex.tv/users/profile, which wasn’t ticked. I’ve now ticked and it appears to have worked. Not sure if this was always there and became unticked or if it’s a new option, but forced tracks are now selected by default.

That tick box was always there and it has to be enabled. It’s also on the web version. Maybe it got unchecked inadvertantly on the web version previously.

@MovieFan.Plex Exactly where in the Web version is it ? I can’t find it.

Settings \ Server \ Languages

Make sure the first check box is enabled Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks. Then for subtitle mode, select Shown with foreign audio. Now if you have subtitles labeled as forced, PMS will automatically choose that subtitle file and include it.
