Yep, only track available is the embedded track (english for whole move). English subs for foreign speaking parts only not even an option. And yes, the file is named properly. As stated above, do not have this issue with "The Whistleblower". The only difference is TW doesn't have any embedded subs.
I too have been playing with 0.95 and was shocked at this stage Plex doesn’t automatically support forced subs? It seems like an early/basic playback feature considering all the advanced and clever stuff it can do.
My fix at the moment has been to remove every set of subtitles from an .mkv apart from the forced track (make sure the forced flag is set for future proofing) and then I play in PLEX, press “s” and it activates the subtitles. If i ever start this movie again it remembers I activated the subtitles and plays back fine. So this has fixed all the Godfather movies and “Che” so far.
One thing though I’m using Simplex at the moment with 9.5 and I can only cycle a single subtitle option. So if an MKV has multiple subtitle tracks I have to delete all of them, even the standard English one (which can sometimes be useful if having to watch late at night) and just leave the forced track as I can only toggle on/off a cycle subtitle track - is this right? There are very few options for subtitles in the settings…I would have thought a default language option might have been a help? I agree with not adding to many features especially as I came from the Apple design school of thought and follow Dieter Rams 10 design principe steps (as we all should!) but even Apple TV has some further options for subtitles.
You can cycle between subs by using "L" on the keyboard. That and many more keyboard shortcuts can be found in the wiki: http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Keyboard

Agree with you that forced subs should just work as opposed to be a toggle feature. If the force tag is on they should be there as intended end of.
If you chose a different subtitle language that would over ride them anyway, obviously.
Agreed. It is my belief that the devs will do this in a future version. But for now we have to use your workaround in the mean time.

Add movie, play it in Plex, select forced subtitles, close movie.
Everytime you play it, it automatically remembers you selected subtitles and plays then.

Doesn’t this work now? Otherwise I have no idea why Inception is showing subtitles at the beginning only for the foreign language parts
I must be doing something wrong? I was watching Star Wars: A New Hope and the Greedo and Jabba the Hutt subtitles are not showing up.
What type of subtitles are you using SRT or PGS. are they embedded or separate ?
Thats a good question! I'm not entirely sure, I'm pretty new at this. I used MakeMKV to create the file and selected Forced English subtitles.
When you create the MKV file, do you include the forced subtitles? These are called PGS subs?
When you watch them are you using the Media Center or on a Client?
If your using a client, Apple TV then you will need to convert the PGS to SRT files.

I'm using the Media Center. Some movies are fine, like Lord of the Rings, but Avatar and A New Hope and Godfather II, don't work. What am I doing wrong? I do include forced subtitles, is there a preference I'm missing?
+1 for getting this issue fixed. This was really annoying for Game of Thrones, which has foreign language segments in nearly every episode.
I would like to open discussion on this topic again if possible. Have there been any feature updates to the latest versions of PMC or PMS that allow detection of forced subtitles? I’m noticing lately a lot of Blu-rays that will for example have a single sup track which when enabled in Plex shows every line of dialog. However in this same sup track are foreign audio translations which are flagged as forced. A Blu-ray player by default can recognize the forced flag and only display the foreign language, OR as an option enable all subtitles for CC.
The latest example that I have personally come across has been the Blu-ray for the movie “The Hunt for Red October”.
I applaud the Plex developers for including support for SUP(PGS) subtitles in mkv files as VLC does NOT. They are superior to text based subs like srt and far less complex than SSA/ASS subs. Extended support for the forced flag would be greatly appreciated by this avid Plex supporter/user.

Throw a couple more +1 logs on this fire for myself and friends. I have multiple subs embedded in the MKV’s, and PMP shows them as “unknown/invalid”. PMP is the only player I have that does not extract or display the embedded subs properly and would greatly appreciate seeing an update on this.
