Forced to login when opening the server settings

Hello Plex community

Since the last update I am forced to login with my plex Account when I open the server settings, but I don´t want to. So i cannot change any setting. In my opinion it is a bug and no feature

In the moment I block all traffic to app.plex.tv, so i have round about 1 minute to make my changes, but it is no solution because after this minute i get a timeout message from my browser.

Do somebody know a better solution (except to login)?

Plex version 1.12.1.4885

There is a bug that will be fixed soon in an upcoming release of the bundled Plex Web app client. The issue affects unclaimed servers.

Glad to hear this, so i will wait for the next update.

thank you for the answer.

I can’t wait for this garbage forced login to be fixed. I do not access my server remotely, therefore I have no use for the forced login, just to change my local server settings.

The release of the updated bundled version of Plex Web will go to beta initially - i do not know how soon after that it would go into the public release

Noticed there’s been a new release of Plex Server, but I guess it contains the same version of Plex Web as I still seem to have this issue?

It is out already - but in the beta at the moment - see http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1650553/#Comment_1650553

Will be in the next public release

Plex Media Server 1.12.3.4973 is now available to everyone but we are still forced to login.

You are forced to sign in if the server itself is signed in

If the server is unclaimed then that requirement to sign in should have been resolved in version 3.41.2 of Plex Web which is bundled with 1.12.3.4973

What version of Plex Web gets loaded when you go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web ? can you tell ? Does it allow you to select settings / Web ?

For me the Problem is solved with the last update (WEB: Version 3.41.2; Server Version 1.12.3.4973).
I installed it yesterday, now I can enter all settings without any login, the Server is not connect to a Plex account and I am not loged in. Everthing works fine for me.

The update has to be installed manually, because you cannot really enter the settings to start the update process. Just download the new version from plex.tv start the instalation, wait till plex is running again and then everything should be fine.

It’s 3.41.2, I solved my problem going here: http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/devices to unclaim my server again, because I was using it signed in because of this recent bug.

Thanks for your help.

of course - if server is signed in everyone has to authenticate unless the local ip is whitelisted as not needing it

of course - if server is signed in everyone has to authenticate unless the local ip is whitelisted as not needing it

I have added IPs to “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” however I am still forced to login. This happens with 127.0.0.1, my external IP, etc. This did not used to do this, even if the server was signed in. I do not like this, especially because this basically breaks control over ones own server and they can’t even get in to sign out to prevent Plex from keeping us from using it unless we are signed in.

I am running Version 1.12.3.4973 and Web Version 3.41.2

The added security changes for authentication came in 2016

Whilst the server is signed in to plex.tv then all client apps must authenticate.
Furthermore if the server local network does not have A Private Network IP Range then authentication is mandatory

Whitelisting is permitted for local subnet IP addresses / ranges
127.0.0.1 is no longer available for whitelisting

All of this constantly being forced to log into the Plex Company is driving me nuts! This has caused me to limit how my family can access the Plex, because they all have to keep logging into the Company. Please remove this. This is not helping the user’s experience. Clients should not have to log into you to use a local service. This does not help secure our servers, but opens another hole. Please fix this bug in the next update.

Sooo disappointed

Part of the server discovery and establishing what the route to the server is, comes from plex.tv. The plex.tv account holds details of how to get to the servers that are owned or shared. With secure connections a specific plex.direct url needs to be used and this information is held on the account. .

There is no offline mode for Plex Media Server - you could sign the server out but that would result in loss of Plex Pass features

You could try to whitelist the local network subnet in server setting
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/200430283-network/
section headed List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth

You could also disable secure connections - see the setting within Network Settings and on the client apps, check if there is a settings for allowing fallback to insecure connections. It would need changing if set to the default of Never
