So I would like more proactive notification of new Plex Media Server builds – and perhaps for other platforms such as Fire TV (since the UI has changed so frequently in the last year that it would be nice to have early notice of changes, heh).
Prior to 1.0.0, I was using Huginn to scrape the download archive page every few days and split it up into individual “posts” in a virtual RSS feed – but that page now redirects to the plain download page.
The new plain download page shows no changelog, nor any way to download older versions. The latter is a bad thing on its own, IMO, since a buggy update can become difficult to roll back.
So I considered subscribing to the thread for Plex Media Server under the Release Announcements forum. I can bookmark the thread, but there’s no RSS feed for new comments, and I cannot get notifications via e-mail to comments on that thread. It’s possible to get notifications of all new posts to Release Announcements, but that’s not useful as new threads are only created for new platforms there.
The ideal would be to provide a RSS feed for comments on any given thread, as well as a RSS feed for new discussions in a given forum, which fulfills this need as well as many other forms of following important discussions. I’m not sure what CMS is in use here, but if it’s off-the-shelf, there may be even builtin RSS support that simply needs to be enabled.
