You can use most basic features and the online media sources for free.
If you want to test Plex Pass features, your best shot is to buy a 1-month subscription (~5$). There’s no free trials for that.
Extending tom’s answer, for Plex-Pass sometimes there are coupons for free 1-month which can you use in trial sense.
Just try searching for coupons in general and hopefully you find the one which works and later you can decide if it’s worth it for you.

Plex Pass is mostly only meant for people using the media server functionality of Plex.
