FreeBSD port

While I appreciate the unpaid time and energy the current port maintainer, and this is no way an attack on the current maintainer or the work (s)he have done to bring PLEX to FreeBSD long before PLEX started officially supporting it, it can take some time to get the port updated… I usually use this time to watch the forums for any problems with the new release before updating my systems, FreeBSD and Windows… However there have been instances where the update took a long time (longer than a week) or not updated at all (I assume) because the update did not really involve any FreeBSD issues…

There was talk some months ago about the idea of PLEX taking over the maintenance of the port… Just curious if there has been any more discussions on the matter???

The short answer to you’re question is that this is still under our radar, as is improving other things related to build process in general, so hopefully this will eventually happen just don’t expect it soon. Worst case it might never happen, but I should not that its super simple to keep the port up to date locally (if you have ports you just need a script to update the Makefile)

I actually posted a script here a while ago that does just that and even installs to a jails, I’m in mobile not, but I’ll see if I find it once I’m on desktop

Actaully its here: PKG update/upgrade dosen't work...How do I update using ports?

It seems you’ve replied to that before in fact, as I noted in that thread, plexpass is not a channel, that is a bigger discussion but FreeBSD ports shouldn’t even provide that version in ports but more importantly its not “plexpass” as it states, its just a “more recent” build that usually points to the beta channel last build.

Only plexpass AUTHENTICATED users should be able to download those, However if you use my script it will use PMS it self to fetch you the proper build as long as the server settings point to BETA (disclamer: this often brings new things, sometimes even fixes, but it might contain bugs too, so you should take that into consideration)

PlexPass it self is a subscription as I’m user you know, regardless of the build you use, you do require the subscription to access the features, but you also always get them, regardless if you use public/beta channel.
