Frequent buffering on LG tv

A few days ago, Plex on my LG smart tv suddenly started buffering frequently while playing a movie or tv show. I assume it’s buffering; the image suddenly freezes and a whirly appears in the middle of the screen for almost a minute, then the video resumes. This happens as many as 4 times during a 45 minute tv show episode, sometimes just a couple of minutes apart.

No network or internet issues that I’m aware of, no changes to hardware, and if the Plex player or server version has updated recently it happened without telling me.

Any suggestions how to fix or diagnose this?

Are you connected to server via Ethernet? Wired…

I would also update your Server Version.

I have an LG about a year old 75 inch that has done the same thing off and on and I narrowed it down to the fact that it tries connecting to the router on 5G which it just cannot handle, I think LG needs to work on their wifi service. I force it back to 2.4 and it works a lot better, no problems. Might be a try…

It should be able to use 5G, maybe it’s 5GHz channel that’s of concern.

Thanks. I’m not using wifi, it’s all wired ethernet connections.

I updated the server. Did not help, in fact it got worse. 6 buffering events in less than half an hour.

Having this issue as well:

  • wired connection
  • Server 1.25.7.5604
  • App client version 5.33.1
  • Platform version 4.9.0
  • LG WebOSTV 05.25.15

It was fine a few days ago. Suddenly I can’t watch anything, regardless if it’s direct play or transcoding.

I updated the server again, it’s now version 1.25.7.5604 also. The first time I watched something after that, it played with only one buffering event, but since then it’s back to frequent buffering, 5 times last night during one movie.

It’s not wifi because it’s all wired connections, and this started rather suddenly last week.

Update, I thought this was my LG TV, but turns out that it’s every player on my network, so I’m suspecting a server issue: Created a new thread here Plex basically unable to play any video on local network. Constant buffering and not completing
