LG WebOS 5 Plex App Buffering

Hi,

I’m trying to play 4k content from a Plex Media Server (latest version 1.25.xxxx running on Debian) with hardware transcoding enabled. Playback is great from all clients I’ve tried except on the LG TV, where playback starts and keeps on buffering every 30 seconds or so.

I’ve ethernet connection to the TV.
I’ve also tried to cast it to the TV Plex app, tried Chromecast: none of them work.

How can we fix this?

This looks like a connection issue as all Smart TV’s only have 100mb Ethernet port. Your only options are as follows.

  1. Create a strong WIFI connection. Using a Gigabit WIFI extender next to TV for example

  2. Add a HDMI 2.1 Capable device to your Gigabit LAN. (NVIDIA Shield pro or a Apple TV 4K)

  3. Some users have had success with USB adapters on some model Smart TV’s, not recommended.

Note: Option 2 is the best option.

Well I was able to play in the exact same
setup without a single glitch till last month.

Guess a software update happened (LG plex app and PMS itself) after which things went south quickly. So not sure that a hardware issue is causing this.
