Is it advisable to completely delete all instances of plex 8.5 on all machines when installing plex 9? I’d like to do that if possible. And how do I completely remove the existing version - everything. I want to start from scratch.
When you start up Plex 0.9 everything will be done automatically, so you dont need to delete anything. But if you for some reason feel the need to rid yourself of 0.8.5:
Delete these:
~/Library/Application Support/Plex
and
~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server
Nothing else needs to be done.
I was under the impression that we could have both installed side by side. Is that the case, or does it take some extra maneuvering to install .9 alongside the other?
The setup procedure in Plex 0.9.0 has moved aside your two folders ~/Library/Application Support/Plex and ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server to another folder in Application Support (you’ll find it when you go in there). You need to quit Plex 0.9, quit Plex Media Server, and then move those two folder mentioned before so they reside directly underneath Application Support. Then you can fire up 0.8.5 =)
But you can of course install Plex/Nine under a different user and log in and out to switch back and forth.
Thanks, that was very helpful. I’m excited to see the new Plex early, and I’m having fun playing with it, but I think that I’m going to keep with Plex8 until I can edit/remove titles as easily in media server, and if the Alaska port might regain its “list view” or at least when other skins come farther along. I’m sure that the transition will come quickly with updates and my caving in editing and adjusting my library to fit 9.
