Fresh intall - A problem has been detected with a core component

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.23.0.4497-a1b1f3c10-x86
Player Version#:

Performed an update with the latest version, then I can not get into the server.
Tried to go to server setting and the message was “Server settings are unavailable”
After much research, trial and error, and backing up metadata, I decided to uninstall and reinstall.

Running Windows Server 2008 R2
NAS attached with media files - plex runs on the server, not the NAS.
Uninstalled Plex.
Deleted Plex Media Server in user settings - \AppData\Local\Plex Media Server
Deleted registry key (after backing up)
Deleted the server name in IIS Manager
Deleted Firefox data and cookies (no big deal since it’s on my server)
Restarted the server.
Did a fresh install.

Then, for some reason, Plex still has the User information. I had to select a user. This is a fresh install. Why does it still know the users in the house?

But getting the error message "
A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.
Please visit the forums and provide your logs, as described here."

I see many have had the same issue but their posts have been closed before any resolution.

I am a Software Engineer and am no stranger to networks and servers. But I am at a lose on this one.

Is it the latest version? Where can I get previous versions?

Is there a solution to this?
Should I simply find another program to read my media and play on my smart tv or should I simply write my own program?

Logs are attached.

Here is an update for the developers at Plex. Your latest update does NOT work for Windows Server 2008 R2. Have you done any testing? UNit testing? Come on people…

I installed plex-media-server-1-22-0-4163 and guess what, I didn’t get it from plex.tv. I couldn’t find older versions. This old version worked. Putting my backups in place is still pending but I will let everyone know. Where did I find this older version with the SHA signed key in place???

Updates to come. Also, opensource is about to happen… Get the Git out of here…

Unrelated to any Plex issues, you might consider using a version of Windows that is still supported by Microsoft.

Have you tested the current non-beta version of Plex? Perhaps there’s an issue with the beta version on very old versions of Windows.

Do not use Win server 2008 for plex. It will not work. You need to use a supported OS.

@Volts Thanks for the info. And thanks for the older version download. I just hope Plex understand that some of us still use older versions of Windows Server. I guess it is time to upgrade…

I’m not one to argue but that’s really not fair.

It’s got nothing to do with what Plex inc does, it’s not something they can rectify. Win 2008 is so old it doesn’t have long filename support (among many other problems). PMS is guaranteed to go unstable at some point, if not right away, even if you could manage to squeeze it through an install. There’s nothing Plex can do about it.

The download link and requirements page say Windows 7 SP1 / Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

In my opinion Plex should change this and not imply support for operating systems that are no longer supported by the vendor.

I agree. My server is running 2008 R2 SP1 and according to the requirements, it should work. Thanks again for the link for the previous versions. I am up and running again even though I have to add my media again. I saved the metadata and media but still, I had collections etc…

Thanks again.
