Friend gettting a message about a remote watch pass?

What does this mean? My friend got this, but I have a lifetime plex pass as server owner:
“As of April 29, 2025, we’re changing how remote streaming works for personal media libraries, and it will no longer be a free feature on Plex.
We noticed that you’ve accessed libraries from friends and family in the past and you may be affected by this change.
To continue streaming from these libraries remotely, you’ll need a Remote Watch Pass.
Alternatively, server owners can purchase a Plex Pass, which will grant you continued remote streaming of libraries that you have been given access to.

Users who do not need to buy a pass are getting spammed about it. You’ll have to take time out of your day to address the confusion, let them know they won’t’ need passses.

Yep, ran into the same issue from a friend today…my big concern is a lot of people are going to end up buying something they absolutely don’t need to do…of course maybe that was what Plex was hoping for.

Plex has a Remote Watch pass option

If the server owner doesn’t need HW transcoding or all the other features of a full Plex Pass,

then this is another option

Plex Watch Pass is per person (the end user)
Plex Pass applies to the server

I have a Plex Pass. Anyone who streams from me can stream for no additional cost

If I did not have a Plex Pass, and wanted to allow streaming, each person I share with would need one.

Their Watch Pass will apply to every server they watch content from

I have lifetime plex pass, I have shared content with friends and they no longer have access to it, and have received the same notification that they need a remote watch pass.

Plex has decided your friends aren’t good enough anymore. It’s too bad.

In all seriousness it should just work, but frankly they clearly don’t care about that at this stage, they want to scare your friends into paying.

I’ve signed up for remote viewing but still don’t have access to my friends server. Don’t have on phone browser ap or Samsung smart tv?!?!
