Remote users are prompted with Remote Watch Pass dialog even though Server already has Plex Pass

Server Version#: 1.41.7.9823
Player Version#: 4.146.0 (Browser Based)

Recently, I have remote users I am sharing my library with reporting that anytime they click “Play” on any media from my library, they are prompted with the “Remote Watch Pass” dialog, blocking them from playing the media. I understand the recent change requires the server owner to have Plex Pass enabled on their account, and I have done so. I have confirmed remote access is public, and that my Plex Pass is actively subscribed. The users have seen this issue on multiple browsers and PCs, Chrome and Safari. They are able to see my library and all the content I have shared, so I know the access is working, but they can’t Play them. Please assist.

Edit: I have also tried fully rebooting the server machine, and instructing the users to log out and back in to their accounts since the Plex Pass subscription was activated on my account.

You have a Remote Watch Pass, but not a full Plex Pass.

Thank you for the reply. It seems I misunderstood the subscription I was purchasing. There doesn’t seem to be a way to cancel my Remote Watch Pass on the manage subscriptions page so that I can upgrade to Plex Pass.

If I read correctly the features page a remote watch pass should do it:

No, it doesn’t, if you want that all your shared users are able to remote stream – without them paying for anything.

If you only buy a Remote Watch Pass (RWP), you can stream remotely from your own server and from servers which were shared with you.
But users who want to remotely access your server would need an RWP of their own.

If you want to avoid the latter, you need a full Plex Pass for your own account.

ok so what does mean the line 'grant media library access to friends and family"?

As you can see it is ticked on all columns. So that is possible even without any Pass. However, to actually use that ability, the sharee user would have to be within the same local network as your server. So you can use that only with persons who live with you under the same roof (e.g. family members).

Very clear now, thank you!

But why some remote users are able to access to my server but others aren’t?

Me and a fiend who both have a media server with Remote Watch Pass have other friends accessing to our libraries, but only a couple of them are blocked, how is it possible?

Are we talking about your own server? It appears you have your server shared to only 2 people.
Neither of which has a Remote Watch Pass (nor a full Plex Pass). They might be using a client type which hasn’t implemented the new rules, yet.

In general though: if the client is in a different network as the server, the client’s user needs either a Remote Watch Pass, or a Plex Pass in order to stream video.
If however the server owner has a full Plex Pass of their own, a Pass is not required for any client user.

Is Plex Pass going to go on sale at Christmas?
