My Friends were able to access my library for years, but in the past few weeks suddenly were not able to do so. It keeps saying they need a Plex Pass. Has something changed?
None of us do, neither myself with the server nor my friends I invited.
Yes. They either need a Plex Pass or a remote watch pass. Alternatively, you can get a Plex pass and then your friends don’t need to get anything
An (OPINION!) idiotic movie by Plex to restrict servers from having their contents viewed outside the home unless SOMEONE pays Plex some money:

Well, that sucks.
After years of working great and me pushing others to adopt this type of watching movies vs streaming, now it doesn’t work unless you pay.
Arg.
Edit:
It looks like they have a specific ‘Remote Watch Pass’ which may fit my needs:

To clarify, the Remote Watch Pass (RWP) would only be useful if your friends get it on their account. Adding a RWP to your server account won’t grant your friends remote access to your server if they don’t have a RWP or Plex Pass. If you want your to grant your friends remote access without them buying a RWP you would need to get a Plex Pass on your server account.
It says “a Remote Watch Pass allows streaming remotely from any Plex Media Server to which you have access.” I have 3 friends (my children who live in other states) who have access to our Plex server in my home (I gave them a ‘friend’ link). I purchased the Remote Watch Pass and they can now stream from my Plex server again. None of them have a Plex Remote Watch Pass or Plex Pass.
It gets more complicated when it comes to the types of accounts your “friends” (children) are. If your friend’s accounts are Managed accounts (log in using your email/password, but have their own profile pic), they are really part of your account.
If they have their own account email/password, but you invited them into your “Plex Home” (log in using their email/password, but can quick swap to anyone else’s profile including yours), they are… technically now part of your account, and gain all benefits of the account to which the “Home” belongs to, such as the remote watch pass.
If neither of these are the case, then… I don’t know how. This may be the first confirmation that a server owner with a remote pass allows remote access to people without one.
I am not sure. I sent a friend request to each of their emails, they accepted, and we have been watching our home movies and pics for years. Suddenly it stopped, I bought a Plex Remote Watch Pass, and now they can watch our home movies again. Hopefully by me posting this info it doesn’t flag our Plex and everything stops working.
If they are listed here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home
Then that explains why.
Only a Home owner with a full Plex Pass can do that. Free users can only create managed users to populate their Home.
