Hello all, I setup a new server on a Synology DS1520+ and have recreated all of my libraries, 80tb of media has already been migrated to the Synology and the libraries folders have been mapped. Back on my “old” server my friends still have access to the libraries which are pointing to the same folders on the Synology. My issue is trying to share the new libraries to them, when I edit their access the list of Libraries is of the old server only, how do I get them to show the libraries on the new server? I was hoping I could Check all of the new ones and uncheck all of the old ones, get them to refresh their clients and start using the new server.
Stop and restart the new server.
Then wait a few hours and try again.
Turns out it was a permissions issue. This is what I used that made the new server and its libraries show up when granting access to a new friend.
Step-by-step guide to granting permissions:
Access Synology DSM: Open a web browser and log in to your Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM).
Open Control Panel: From the DSM home screen, click on Control Panel.
Navigate to Shared Folders: In the Control Panel, go to the Shared Folder section.
Edit Media Folder: Select the shared folder containing your media (e.g., “Movies,” “TV Shows”) and click the Edit button.
Adjust Permissions:
Go to the Permissions tab.
In the dropdown menu at the top of the permissions section, change the user/group view from “Local users” to System internal user (or “Local user” for DSM 6).
Find and select the PlexMediaServer (or “Plex” for older DSM versions) internal user.
Check the Read/Write box to grant access.
Click Save or OK to apply the changes.
Refresh Plex: Go back to your Plex Media Server and refresh the page or restart the server so it can detect the newly granted folder permissions.
