Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935
Player Version#: 4.30.2
I recently purchased a Synology DS218+ and moved my Plex media and config to the new server. Previously it was running on an external HDD connected to my Mac. I have about 15 friends sharing my library and all worked well prior to the move. I share 2 libraries with most users - Movies and TV Shows. I confirmed for existing users they could stream movies from the new server. However, anyone who tries to sign back into Plex with their account doesn’t see my shared libraries anymore as an option at all.
Can someone help me figure out why this is happening? I have tried removing the shares and resharing, had a friend create a new Plex account and reshared to him with the same result… they get the invite and accept it but still don’t see my libraries.
Have you verified your remote access is working for the new server?
e.g. if you used to have a manual port forward… will this now point to the Synology Diskstation instead of your old server?
Thanks tom80H. Remote access is showing as working and when I connect to it from my iPhone on LTE it works just fine. I may have to dig in deeper on the port forwarding to see if that is part of the issue.
If they login with Plex Web and click on More in the sidebar do they see your server?
Maybe they need to reset customizations on their client and then re-pin the libraries.
You can test things as well. Make another Plex account using a different e-mail address (get a free account at yahoo, gmail, etc). Share the folders with the new account like you share with your friends.
With Plex Web, use an incognito/private window when you login with the new account. It will avoid any conflicts with your primary account.
When streaming over the mobile network, monitor the stream via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing. If the connection says Remote, then port forwarding is working. If it says Indirect, then you’re connecting via Plex Relay and Remote Access is not working correctly.
Thanks FordGuy61. I confirmed when streaming over mobile that Plex dash is showing remote so my port forwarding looks to be good. I will do some work on the suggestion of creating a free account to test. I have two users who are struggling but both are seeing the same thing - they see the my server in the source list but when they attempt to access it, it states “Server Name is currently unavailable”
Ok, so I created a test account and shared it with myself. After receiving and accepting the invitation to the shared libraries, I logged in using an Incognito tab. It shows as 2 libraries being shared when logged into the test account however those libraries are not actually showing in the navigation area. This is the same as the other Friends are experiencing. I have no idea what to do next!
Do you see “More” at the bottom of the navigation area?
If so, click on it. You should see your server listed with the shared libraries below it. You can then pin them to the home page.
Also check secure connections settings.
Settings → ServerName → Network → Secure Connections = Preferred.
That will let your server accept both secure and insecure connections from Plex clients.
This should take you to the Plex Web setup page. You should see a list of the libraries shared with the account. You can then pin the desired libraries to the home page.
Here’s what I see when using my test account. I’m on the same network as my server, so I don’t have to worry about remote access working.
I’m not logged in at this point, so just see Plex’s online media sources.
I login and go to settings -> Plex Web -> General and click on Reset Customizations.
This appears in the middle of the browser window. The top three are the shared libraries. The rest are the online media sources. I select the ones I want and choose Finish Setup.
Maybe I can share my library with you temporarily to see if you can see them? I feel like I’m losing my mind because everything seems to be set up properly.
I’m thinking maybe it has to do with something I did during the migration from Mac PMS to Synology NAS PMS. I copied the plex ID from the config file and pasted it into the config file on NAS. Wondering if Plex is getting confused because the users previously had access to the same ID but not I’m inviting them to a new server with the same ID.
Thinking about just resetting the Plex install and reloading/resharing…
Quick update: I cleared my configuration files (basically had Plex recreate the Application Support folder) and now the shares are working. I obviously lost all my watch history, etc but at this point I’ll just deal with that and reset.
