Not all my files appear in my library despite proper naming

Server Version#: 7.01-42218
Player Version#:1.210-3744

I’m trying to play files from my Syno server, but everything is marked as unavailable. I had to update Plex via Syno Diskstation Manager and I know the Syno version is far outdated compared to what is actually available on the Plex server.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

Set your shared folder permissions.

Somehow they were lost

For my Video folder it was already set to allow Plex to read files.
For my Plex folder, it was already set to read/write.

I have “access” to my files via Plex, and I can scan for changes, however nothing is refreshed. This is the error message I constantly receive when I attempt to play a file.
Playback Error

Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted.

Can you post your server logs?

Synology loves to claim exclusive access to their predefined Video, Audio, and Photo shared folders.

The moment you create new shared folders yourself and move your media there,
ALL the problems vanish.

This is something about how they manage their Video Station, Audio Station, and Photo Station products. It’s been this way since DSM 4.3

I created new folders after I first installed Plex. Are you saying I need to do this again?

Also, one issue I’m seeing is that Remote Access seems to have an issue:

Not available outside your network

Your server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network.

If I click to disable remote access I then get the a

ttached

Thanks. I’ve attached them via RAR
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-08-12_18-14-22.zip (5.7 MB)

If I screwed up including all of these files lmk so I can delete @ChuckPa

I’ll also add that I downloaded and installed the latest Plex update, overriding Synology’s NAS-compatible Plex DSM download. I don’t know if that is wise. But I’m still coming up with the same error, which is that my media files do not sync, and the ones that are showing in my library do not play:

“Unavailable”
" Playback Error"
“Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted.”

ERROR - Error opening file '"/volume1/Video2/Movies/Night at the Museum (2006)/Night at the Museum (2006).mp4"' - Permission denied (13)

Your permissions are still screwed up. Still looking at the logs for other files, but if you can give examples of things that wont play or show up that would have been captured during the logs provided I can see if I can find specifics for you.

EDIT: per the FAQ For DSM 7 - Grant permissions for “PlexMediaServer” Where you using the older DSM 6 username of Plex ?

Thanks. I am unable to play literally any files, Movie or TV Show. My current version of Plex is now: 1.28.0.5999-7000
And DSM 7.1-42661

Before I manually installed 1.28.0 my Plex media server was Plex. Since I updated Plex to 1.28.0 I am now using PlexMediaServer. But the only thing I’ve done is grant read/write permission to PlexMediaServer. I haven’t changed any other settings.

Remote Access is not working. Did you see the screenshots I posted above?

After migrating from DSM 6 and the Plex shared folder
to DSM 7 and the PlexMediaServer shared folder,

There are a lot of other changes.

  1. User Plex isn’t used any more
  2. DSM 7 required we switch username to PlexMediaServer (the package name)
  3. This means you must go and apply the permissions to all your media files.
  • Set for the shared folder
  • “Apply to this folder, sub folders , and files” — IS REQUIRED

Here is the How To

Here is what it should look like:

You can remove user Plex from the Control Panel - Users app.
It’s abandoned and no longer needed.

SOLVED. That was the issue. I needed to create and grant permissions to PlexMediaServer. Now it works.
