I have several friends (not managed accounts) that are on my plex pass server. Can they still watch my stuff? downloads are not important.

For the “New Plex Experience” clients, current Apple/Android mobile and AppleTV beta:

  • If the Plex server owner has a Plex Pass, then others do not need a Plex Pass or Plex Remote Streaming Pass to stream video from the server.

  • If the Plex server owner does not have a Plex Pass, then others need their own Plex Pass or Plex Remote Watch Pass to stream remotely from a Plex server.

  • If the Plex server owner does not have a Plex Pass, then the server owner needs a Plex Remote Watch Pass to stream remotely from their own (or any other) Plex server.

For other Plex clients (SmartTV, Plex Desktop, etc.):

  • The “old rules” apply. A Plex Pass or Remote Watch Pass is not required to stream remotely. When these clients are updated to the “New Plex Experience” then the new rules listed above will apply.

Plexamp and Plex Photos

  • A Plex Pass or Remote Watch Pass is not required to stream music or photos remotely.
