Full length studio albums only on Android Auto

Server Version#: 1.24.1.4931
Player Version#: 3.5.0

A bit of background: I recently switched from PMS on a WD My Cloud Home to Ubuntu Server (20.04 focal). I am not sure if the change I’m seeing is due to this or just the upgrade to Plexamp 3.5.

In Android Auto, I am no longer able to see anything but full length studio albums in Plexamp. Also, when an album ends, autoplay only plays full length studio albums as well. It behaves as if singles & eps, live albums, and compilations (single artist) don’t exist at all. So if I were to go in my car dash to Artists and select Morrissey, I would see all of his studio albums (e.g., Viva Hate, Your Arsenal, etc.) but I do not see Morrissey at KROQ, Live at Earls Court, Beethoven Was Deaf, My Early Burglary Years, World of Morrissey, etc.

However, if I open the app on my phone, I see everything (although it is grouped by heading [ALBUMS, SINGLES & EPS, LIVE ALBUMS, COMPILATIONS], rather than in one single list). So Plexamp sees those EPs/albums on the server, but when using the Android Auto dashboard interface I only see what’s under the ALBUMS heading, nor will autoplay play anything that’s not in ALBUMS.

This actually used to work fairly recently. I’m not sure if the problem is related to the upgrade of Plexamp to 3.5 or to my retiring my WD My Cloud Home in favor of running PMS on Ubuntu Server.

Anyway, I’d really love to get this back to working the way it used to. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

Probably a mix of both.
With PMS 1.24 The server has an option to group your music by release categories (e.g. „regular“ albums, live albums, singles/eps, compilations…). Plexamp on the other hand seems not to expose all of those release categories in all use cases (e.g. skipping compilations in most radios or seemingly only displaying „regular“ albums on Android Auto)

Interesting, although I do seem to remember my old server (on the My Cloud Home) also separating them into categories, although I may be thinking of TIDAL and not my regular music library. Any idea where to find that option so I can turn it off and see if there’s a change in Android Auto?

Given the MyCloud Home is Stuck with an ancient version of PMS (1.18.6 IIRC), it’s unlikely you’re seeing this on that server (or at least this would be a different issue).

I think you’re right. But I don’t see anything in the library configuration on the new server relating to grouping. Where do I find it?

Settings >[Server Name] > Library > Group albums by type
This option should only be available w/ PMS 1.24.0 or newer.

Ah, OK. I see why I didn’t see it. I had to click on “Advanced Settings” to unhide it.

I flipped it to disabled. I’ll see later if it works in the car. Thanks for your help!

Fixed in the next release.

(You can disable the new album type splitting if you want, it’s a setting on the server.)

I am able to see them now since the update, even having flipped the grouping back to “enabled.” However, now automatically playing the next album after one finishes no longer includes compilations. Strangely, even when playing a compilation, it starts playing radio rather than the next compilation, even. I’m flipping it back to “disabled” and I will give it a try again tomorrow.

For example, playing Black Sabbath’s “Sabotage” should have been followed by “We Sold Our Souls for Rock ‘N’ Roll,” but instead it skipped that and went straight into “Technical Ecstasy.” This was in the car (Android Auto). At home, I played The Misfits’ “Collection I” but once it ended it started playing radio, starting with a Samhain track, but did not play “Collection II.”
